Is there nothing more mountainous in Scotland?

The problem is most of the decent climbs up there are in the middle of nowhere, the organisers are already under pressure to reduce transfers as it is.

Anywhere north of the central belt has amazing roads for cycling and stunning views, sadly they like to stick to the scottish borders and even when they do they don't use the best climbs down that way.....also a finish up the royal mile to Edinburgh castle would be good

The transfers thing really annoys me because the organisers try to fit most corners of Britain in every year and it creates problems. For me the solution is different Tours for the three British nations.

A 2-3 stage Tour of Wales.
A 5-7 stage Tour of England
A 5-7 stage Tour of Scotland

So does the route really consists of 7 sprinting stages and one hill top finish? Holy crap, this seems like a boring race from the looks of it (havent watched a minute yet apart from the classic Wiggins interview).

The route this year is poor, however tomorrow shouldn't be a sprint and stage 2 wasn't either. Last years route was much better with action on most stages.

The Lecht:

could both appear in this race.

From a practical viewpoint Great Dun Fell would be challenging, one way up one way down, getting TV cameras up there etc, not sure it would work well, would make a great finish though.

I actually think a great addition to todays stage could involve up Hartside, descent to Alston, up Killhope and down to Stanhope and finish up Crawleyside.

EBH outclimbs Poels but Poels outsprints EBH. Bizarro climb

EBH looked like he was on the drops for most of it as well? Really pleased for Poels as he was the most aggressive up the climb.

Have got over the missed potential of tomorrow's stage and really looking forward to it now. Arguably the hardest one, with most climbing and nearly all up and down until the last 20 miles.

With any luck, the peleton will be broken up by halfway and could be some great racing. My picks from a hat are Dylan Van Baarle and Tom Stewart

Yes logistically it would be tough to cart everything up Great Dun Fell, however im sure it could be done. It's a really tough climb after the bit of false flat at the bottom. There's a km that averages around 14% and the last 6k's in total average almost 10%. Whilst there are other climbs that average higher, there are few that go on for that length.

I like your idea of joining a few tough climbs together, its something that the Tour of Britain organisers just don't do.

Could be done, but the other problem is the risk of cancellation due you weather with it being so exposed.

Thinking about my proposed finish though they could add in a couple more climbs between Killhope and Crawleyside, take a right turn at Westgate and down to rookhope followed by the shorter climb which the C2C route takes between Rookhope and Stanhope.

The picture of the lecht that you've posted is actually the second half of the climb, that's the easier part of the climb the first half of the climb is a leg destroyer, it ramps up to something like 25% and stays like that for a good while, I've done a couple of sportives up that way and the lecht is by far the worst climb I've ever done, I actually thought I was going to die on the bike when climbing the first steep part.
