Why did Lotto Soudal pull for Debusschere instead of Greipel?

edit. Very slow.

Debusschere and the last lead out guy looked totally unconvincing, also not sure why they didn't pick Greipel...

Why did Greipel not sprint, and even if he wasn't sprinting, why was he not the lead-out man? Of course Sieberg lacks the speed to do that. Total shambles.

Greipel said before the race that he was planning on helping Debusschere in return for his work in the Tour. I don't get the second thing though. Sieberg is indeed not fast enough to do a good lead-out.

Poels now favourite for GC?

On paper he should be, but 1. he was in that breakaway (admittedly a successful one for Vakoc) yesterday and 2. he seemed to suffer pretty hard in it.

Maybe he had a couple of cans of beer watching the Germany match last night.

:D
Naa, this was already the plan during the first stage but Debusschere got a puncture with 10k to go.

Yea, Trentin sprinted for EQS, so either Cav was baulked or derailed by the Vakoč crash or just didn't have it and let Trentin contest today.

Great lead out by IAM.

Did you notice how far back Holst Enger opened his sprint? He was around 20th position with 500m to go, still managed to fight for the win. For me that was a breakthrough performance by him, only 21 with a season ravaged by injuries and illness behind him.

Does Viviani have a contract for next year?
Good question, I don't think so, but he seems to be happy at Sky and it's a good team for a guy that also likes to compete on track. Yes, having a real sprinttrain in a gt would be great for him, but he seems to be happy at Sky and at the Giro he worked as bottle carrier when he had the points jersey and he was riding at the front and working for Porte on the Campitello Matese stage, right before the final climb.

He seems to have excellent instincts in the heat of the sprint, riding and hopping off trains. Handy for a GC team. Things may change after Rio, if he focuses on the road completely, but it does seem a good fit.

Seems as though Cav was held up by the crash.
