A suitably dramatic and abrupt end, I never thought he would be the type to finish his career with his arms in the air but somehow he made it. The only regret is not attacking Van Aert and Van Der Poel on the Poggio when he had the chance, though hindsight is 20-20.

Maybe he felt he proved a point by coming back and making the winning enclosure again but didn’t see that he could be competitive against the top tier of sprinters again so bowing out with a world tour stage win on his last day of racing was as good as it was going to get and a fitting way to sign off on his own terms.

What? Most of bike racing, even for the very best is a life of suffering and losing. Race days to win ratio even for the absolute best is a low return life.
He has something else eating below the surface, has him outside, not getting along.. Guy got a late ride, got golden ticket, got a win in new colors, amongst a new team, new everything and he flamed out in a few months.. Any team that signed him to prove a " personal point " is idiotic. Ewan was, is physically capable of mixing it up at dozens of races, proof in his immediate success after signing.. Head case, and all his coaches and handlers.. Hope he opens a pet grooming business or smoothie bar in South Australia.. Kittle soup.. Great racer unrealized.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Family life took precedence for him, you could see it over all his social media. First place he goes after announcing his retirement? Disneyland
