Not sure of his current fitness level, but they have two months to get him to a level to climb the cipressa and poggio and he has as good a chance as the other contenders.

I think he's one of the better Ineos' transfers recently.
Assuming he comes on a very low wage he is low risk-high reward option and if it works well that could prompt more sprinters to move to Ineos.

As predicted by me. Ineos was always a likely destination as they have the riders to get him to the finish. Anyway, Ineos needs to keep Ewan away from altitude.

Agreed, both in seemingly terminal decline. Ewan's issue are also similar to Hayter's in being too reluctant to get involved in a sprint melee, combined with general bad positioning/awareness, leading to a lot of crashes.

Ineos would have better off altering their calendar/strategy so as not waste resources supporting a dud sprinter, and giving the support riders more opportunities..

I think it makes sense, I’m guessing he’s signed for a lower wage but high bonuses if he performs. I think he might have lost a little speed but it’s not a physical thing with Ewan, it’s a mentality issue which sometimes happens with sprinters after they have a kid, it’s a high risk side of the sport. If it works then great but if it doesn’t then it’s no big deal for Ineos as at this last stage it’s not like they were going to be signing anyone else of significance.

Why should Ganna, a guy who can get over the Poggio with MvdP and Pogacar, ride for him? if both of them are still there after the Poggio/just a few sec behind a solo rider than sure, but having him as the clear cut leader from the start would be a bit strange.

Ewan won't be there near the front in San Remo unless they've discovered [[content deleted]] in the winter, I imagine they are signing him on a one year prove it deal in the hopes he can clear up some stages in the Tour of Outer Mongolia against Tim Dupont and Yacine Hamza and get a bit of good feeling back into the team.

Ganna has shown he is fine with helping position washed sprinters like Viviani and Hayter before, he seems to have given up sprinting for himself like in Summer 2023 even though I think it had potential.

Here he is not three months ago for example, I think with that leadout Ewan wins this sprint;

Yes, but one of the times he was second over the top of the Poggio too, just in the wheel of Van Aert.

But that was a different time, and he isn't that rider anymore.

I'm cynically interested of what Caleb can do at Ineos. Can he win 3 stages at the Tour? It would be a nice story. Evidently in the cycling market it sells. And that's what it boils down to. Alea iacta est.
