It's very weird that he's probably leaving for better opportunities and bigger money while his 2 wins this Giro were off the back of the 2 most perfect leadouts you'll see all year.
His sprinting was okay, although normally against this competition I think the difference should be a little bigger. In his climbing level and his recovery you could see that he did lack a proper preparation, he can do much better than this.Disappointing Giro, but it's hard to say how much his collarbone affected him in the easy stages.
I'd love to ride in the wrong era and still collect 40 pro wins at that ageKooij is a wrong era kind of rider in my book. He's not a hyperspecialized pure sprinter. But the time in which durable sprinters had a great shot at Sanremo or a WC every year is so over.
Philipsen won it last year, Kooij ended 8th this year while he's only 23 year old? If the wind direction favours a bunch sprint these guys can still win MSR.Kooij is a wrong era kind of rider in my book. He's not a hyperspecialized pure sprinter.
