I don't think this book will be done in that format. If Walsh was doing his own biography and was doing his own research, it would be done that way but this will be your typical ghost writing job through Froome's eyes.

.

Walsh does research?

What the **** is up with all those athletes writing autobiographies before their career is even halfway done, it's ****ing stupid, just making money from dumb fans looking for some inspirational story which is probably only half-true and making yourself look stupid for people who doubted you anyway

Yeah Walsh does amazing research - he failed to ask other teams about their preparations, thus negating most of his reasons for him saying Sky were successful.

But more stories about butterflies, nutella, pineapple juice flavoured water and Brailsford taking pics with his iphone would be epic.

He can sit there and pretend it's only the people who haven't read his book who have an issue...complete rubbish.

History will not be kind to him...

The rate at which Walsh churns out his books he should be writing for Mills & Boon.

Watching him fall in love with Froome is beautiful. I just hope David doesn't get his heart broken. He's been hurt before :)

A love like no other.

"A marvellous book detailing his accomplishments. It does hurt it though, that he is not musing about his massive doping program"

Just got The Sunday Times.

Froome's book has been serialised in it once again today with 3 extracts from it.

Here is what he has to say about his attack on Contador on the Ventoux.

I took over the pace but stayed low in my saddle, spinning my gears. I sowed more confusion than I had hoped for. I hadn't actually been able to change gear fast enough because the road had been flat and I was accelerating. I was spinning very fast: far faster than was efficient. I was actually in the wrong gear. But this now was my attack.

By the end of the Ventoux stage he was spat at up to a dozen times during the Tour.

He spoke about Armstong and said with regards to himself that he can't prove his clean but that we won't be fooled again etc ...

There is a section about the Tour of Egypt that I haven't got around to reading yet.

LOL!

Wasn't the story that they'd trained high RPM?

this was my favourite bit;

"Don't talk to me about the lost integrity of our sport and then spit at me."

Hes kind of ranking the different types of unethical behaviour, is my interpretation of this. Doping > Spitting, etc

The guy doesn't die in the end.

This book seems terrible. From the excerpts I've read so far it seems the stories follow a pattern something like this;

chris is great
chris is the victim
everyone else is the bad guy
repeat.

My sympathies to anyone that has to read this trash.

Funny how all the reviews you posted praise not the book, but froome himself.

And then Walsh boasts about how his froome books get positive reactions.

So you won't be first in line to get his autograph on it? :D

It would be an interesting read - probably heavily team edited though.

My recollection is that Porte was quoted as saying that they trained in that way for such an attack. Not sure if I care enough to look it up though.

To be fair those guys who are doing the spitting or the person that he said threw beer and urine at him are a bunch of low life idiots. There's a line you draw when expressing your suspicion or unhappiness at what you see.

The guy doesn't die in the end.

Reading it now, looks like he was lucky.

Still in two minds about it. His background from where he came from might be an interesting read but if we're looking at it from the Vuelta 2011 onwards, I don't think we'll hear much that is new of note.

I thought it was Kerrison or someone who said it was better to attack sitting on the saddle.

I am confused how you reach that conclusion from the article.

"Pete Kennaugh was laughing at the end of the stage," said Kerrison. "He said the way Chris rode that climb was exactly what we do in training every second day. Our training is much more than just doing intervals at a constant pace for a set amount of time; [some of it] is about being able to handle changes of pace – to go from, say, 350 watts to 650 watts for a few seconds to attack and get a gap on a rider who is trying to follow, then come back down to 350 watts."

Kerrison's term for this kind of interval training is spiked efforts, "where we make an effort then come back to a very high but sustainable pace. The energy systems have to have the ability to produce that power, which will produce a load of lactate in the muscle, because you are well above anaerobic threshold [the point at which the body is producing more than it can handle of the lactate which is the main limiting factor in intense efforts] – then come down to a very high level, just sub-threshold, and clean out the lactate, the effects of the attack. Pretty much all our training is based on that. The guys in the team who train that way look at [Froome's attack] and think, 'He's rehearsed that way of riding, three or four times a week for the last two years'."

Most often when climbers make their attacks on a mountain, they do it standing on the pedals to gain the maximum amount of leverage from the arms and upper body. Froome remained seated while making his attack on Contador, however. There is a clear advantage in doing this, Kerrison believes: working in a wind tunnel has shown Sky that there is much less drag when a cyclist remains sitting down. That applies even at relatively low climbing speeds.
Contradictious in terminus logicus fail...

When will REAL journalists catch up on these kinda contradictions...

Wonders will never cease.

Is this true? That there is less drag sitting down vs standing up? Far out. Talk about scientific advancements. I am surprised Sky let Kerrison publicly release such potent and far-reaching advancements in cycling performance gains. Incredible. Surely a tactical blunder!?
