when they have appeared in the same race, score is
Moscon 6 v Alaphilippe 18
Moscon 5 v Sagan 39
Moscon 1 v Valverde 15
Moscon 6 v Kwiatkowski 16
Shouldn't you include only sprints? It's what's being discussed, no?
When both have been in the top ten (not checking if they are flat or finished same time)
Moscon 5 v Alaphilippe 3
Moscon 0 v Sagan 1
Moscon 2 v Valverde 2
(according to CQ Head to head)
Stats against Kwiatkowski not genuine competition because they are teammates.
What races are you counting?
EDIT: Nevermind I hadn't read properly, I thought you'd written you did check for flat and s.t., sorry.

Checking for s.t. and that they both got involved in the sprint:

Moscon vs Alaphilippe on s.t. Only last year's Vuelta a Burgos and the 2016 GP Montreal. Both uphill so not really relevant to flat sprinting speed.

vs Sagan only the same GP Montreal, again uphill not that relevant.

vs Valverde only this year's Trofeo Andratx. Again, uphill.

I agree completely with your reasoning on Kwiatkowski

So, basically nothing relevant against any of those.

Maybe we should just conclude that the guy rarely sprints and that's the reason for the scarclty of results for the above comparisons and thus, we really don't know how fast he might be.
IMO he rarely sprints because others in his team are faster so they get the nod while he does a leadout
He does occasionally sprint, though. It's happened so few times that I've bothered to compile them, but I think we have enough data to draw conclusions.

5th out of 5 against 3 fast guys and one so-so

4th out of 4 against 1 fast and 2 so-so

1st of 5 against 4 climbers

lost a 2 up sprint against Wellens

6th of 9. Of the 3 behind him, 1 didn't sprint and the other 2 pulled for teammates in the group, so effectively last.

Wins a 2 up sprint with Taaramae

Wins a 3 man sprint with Pozzovivo and Bardet

So, fast for a climber, slow for a classics rider.
It's about the level of speed I expect from Flecha. Once in a blow moon he might win (Zuri Metzgete 2004) but most of the time he has to finish alone as Pozzato said.

The Shark ending his career with SKY as a super-dom
for Il Trattore in the Giro? That'd be good for Pinarello.
Moscon being a contender for the Giro GC in 2020 is beyond reasonable, i can't even see him actually ride it considering that his bigger focus of the season are spring classics with a full program from Omloop to Liege and doesn't seem to want to change that in the near future. Maybe he could give a little shot to the Vuelta like Kwiatkowski this year but at the moment we don't even know if he has the recovery for a stage race and, above all, if he can survive high mountains and multi mountain stages since only in the Angliru stage of last year Vuelta he has showed somenthing and wasn't a real hard high mountain stage like the ones you have in the Giro.

What's up with him this year? I know he messed up his preparation last spring, but you'd think he and the team have learnt?
Had an injury I think that forced him to pull out of Tirenno- he's only just started racing again.
seems he won't be at the Giro

I suspect that we might get news that will explain everything soon enough...

I tend to think that the current rumors are mostly just a result of him being widely disliked. He was racing three weeks ago and is down to start the ToC. On the face of it the botched preparation followed by crashes explanation for his change of schedule isn’t obviously suspect. We will know soon anyway.
