Yeah, and one of those Giros was 2 teams ago, before even joining INEOS. A Yates is very good, consistently does well in 1 races. After that, it's like the 55th ranked rider in the UCI points standings. Good riders but normal for a team to lose over a couple of years and easily replaceable.
Yeah, you're right of course. I was just a bit shocked to be honest.
Or perhaps they assessed the transfer market this year and determined that there were no difference makers. Tao and Danny Martinez were the top two GC riders with expiring contracts. I understand thinking letting Tao walk was a mistake, but INEOS know him better than anyone, so my theory is that INEOS has misread the market, thinking he (and perhaps Trek) was wrong about his value.
Who would we be waiting on? Other than the un-extended INEOS crew, there isn't much talent unspoken for.
Apparently Ineos contacted Pogacar's agent, but if Pogacar's name came up amongst others the agent has, it does not say.
You can't only buy stars though.
