So besides a recovering Bernal and Arensman,who are the GC threats for Ineos next year?Yates leaves, Carapaz leaves, Hayter and Dunbar are question marks, Dani Martinez didn't go to the next level yet,Rodriguez?Will they bite the bullet and pay a release clause for Rogla?

Arensman is actually a quite good gc rider, given he prefers the Giro d'Italia, is a diesel climber and Vegni usually tends to include at least one long TT in his courses.

He's not worse than Adam Yates. Actually I'm more surprised by the results Yates actually archived during his spell with Ineos.

Carapaz okay. But Ineos ruined his 2020 gc campaign. Carapaz was clearly below Pogacar & Vingegaard last year and has been underwhelming so far this season.

Arensman is up and coming.

They still got Geoghegan Hart for a Vuelta a Espana top 10 placement or so. Pretending he's not as mediocre as his last 2 years make him appear.

Armchair cycling manager- If I ran UAE, I'd fly to Holland and meet up with Mathieu van der Poel. I'd appeal to his ego and his rivalry with Van Art. Say "you're the only one who can stop Wout" and then I'd offer him and his team a boatload of cash to approve the transfer.

Back on Planet Earth, I am just shocked UAE isn't doing more. I feel like if UAE was Ineos and they had a generational talent who just lost to a vastly superior team, they'd sign everyone under the sun. I know UAE needs a punchy rider but heck, sign Carapaz. If EF can afford them, surely UAE can as well, even just as a super domestique. I am just shocked I don't see UAE attached to everyone. Jumbo actually seems more active on the market if the rumors are to be believed which makes the who thing even more shocking.

Who knows, maybe in a few weeks we'll all be reading about all the UAE signings but right now it seems like they're just writing the loss off on bad luck which seems like a massive misreading of the race.

Besides Rodriguez pidcock could be a wildcard for the future, but him becoming a gc rider is also a question mark.

Martinez was on GC podiums in every stage race he entered this year except Suisse (8th) and the Tour. That includes a win in Basque Country. I think it is safe to say he is a GC threat. Far more so than Hayter or Dunbar. I am not sure what problems he had in the tour, but I think Ineos are rightfully confident in his GC abilities.

According to his social media he became ill at the end of week 1 and was weak for a few days.

apparently it was confirmed by Savio that Cepeda and Piccolo join EF on from next week.

no idea how this is going to work out, though, as EF is at the limit already. So they need to transfer two of their riders elsewhere.

Can't they do it the Alpecin way and send two riders to their devo squad (who then can still race with the principal team in any race which isn't a WT race)?

Or isn't EF Education - Nippo Devo Team directly affiliated with the pro team, since I don't remember their using one of the CT guys in any pro team selection.

Won't Thomas be riding Grand Tours next year? They have Bernal, Arensman, Thomas, Dani Martinez, Pidcock, Rodriguez and Sivakov. Maybe no one who can compete for a victory in Tour, but they should have captains and domestiques to be competitive in both the Giro and Vuelta.

don't think they used that opportunity yet, but by the rules it's possible, yeah.

edit: Alpecin Devo only signed riders without contract, though, didn't say? Not sure a transfer from WT/PT to CT is possible, tbh, based on this rule:

"A transfer period exists and applies to all changes of team, whether between two UCI WorldTeams or between a UCI WorldTeam and a UCI ProTeam."

And thinking about it: Riders can only score points for their primary team anyway, so it wouldn't make much sense for EF to sign them for the Devo team.

Last year they moved Diether Sweeck from the pro team to the devo squad when Julien Vermote was added.

Maybe EF can do the same with someone like Morton, Howes, Arroyave or Nakane who didn't race much so far and didn't compete in any WT race.

maybe, yes. It probably first needs an official "contract termination" approved by the UCI then, but if Alpecin got it for Sweeck, EF should have a chance as well. The "Either party shall be entitled to terminate the present contract, without notice or liability for compensation, should the Rider be rendered permanently unable to exercise the occupation of professional cyclist" rule leaves quite a bit of room for this.

I don't know if there's need for that because the paying agent of the WT and the Devo team needs to be the same, so they should be in contract with the paying agent. I can't find any related to this specific case in the UCI rules but I think they just need to change the team the rider is assigned to and, from that date, respect the provisions regarding the participation of riders from the second team in the principal team's races.
