If Ewan has another bad year his worth would be 5 times lower than when he signed his latest contract. There is just no way Ewan would throw away all that money by going to another team where he would not earn close to what he's earning now. Technically it's not impossible, but the chances that something like that happens are really slim.

Also you always talked about Ewan leaving before or '"being on another team by 2024", not specifically about Lotto wanting him gone. This is the first team you specifically mentions that. Well you did say that Lotto would not give him full support next year which was also ridiculous.

That makes no sense, considering circumstances now change completely just as much for the team as for the rider. But if that is indeed the case then there is no clean way out for them. Having said that, if they wanted him gone, I'sure they could get rid of him. He's a professional athlete and has a short career. He can't afford wasting any time. So if Lotto tells him they're going to be using him to pick 1.1 race UCI points like they have been doing with De Lie, and giving De Lie the spotlights and big races next year, Ewan might very well reconsider staying.

Yeah well the UCI doens't make sense. The clause was probably ment to protect a rider from teams that deliberately step down from WT and them being stuck riding small races because of that. The UCI just didn't think it through, when do they ever.

As I've already touched upon; I wonder if there's some sort of "Point of No Return" clause. For example; Reynders would have to be extremely naive to think he's gonna ride for a WT team next year.
Otoh, I suppose it's possible that there have been riders who had initially signed for some of the "gonna be relegated" teams, but before the teams in question got around to announce it, the riders went "Yeah, nope. Not gonna happen now."

Realistically, highly paid riders i the two relegated teams will be flat out finding new teams even if they wanted to leave - There will be more opportunities in year two to leave if the planets align.

Plantur Pura also make 3 signings of road orientated riders. Although while I don't know much about the other two without looking up their results etc, Wright did win the Junior European XC champs a few years ago and did alot of CX alongside it.

I looked it up, and apparently there's an article on EF webpage stating Valgren "will start the year on EF-NIPPO-Development squad". Weird news.

PS: I guess it makes sense when you link news on Valgren and Honoré, it seems they opened up a roster spot for Mikkel given Valgren will basically miss the season.

Guerreiro and Gaviria for their Giro team? Unless Mas wants to go Giro-Vuelta and skip the Tour, then a sprinter + stagehunters for the Tour makes sense. A potential sprint train with Norsgaard, Cortina and Kanter wouldn't be bad at all, at least on paper.

I guess Honore is hoping for more chances as a protected rider in hilly one day races. He probably won't be the clear cut leader with the rise of Powless and Piccolo, but he'll be a protected rider.

Signings look iteresting, but they lost pretty much all of their best riders. Menten, Dupont, Aniolkowski, Rex, Livyns, Paquot, Paasschens.
