I don’t think Ewan has a particularly strong negotiating position these days, certainly not compared to the one he had when he signed his current contract.

well probably Lotto told him if he stayed for 2024 they'd make him race Rwanda, Hainan, Qinghai Lake, Turkey, Tro Bro Leon, Beograd Banja Luka, Sibiu, Ober Oesterreich, Gevaudan, Occitanie, Itzulia, Antalya, Gran Camino, Guangxi, Mont Ventoux Challenge, Mercantour, Appennino, Castilla y Leon....

My first reaction to the Ewan news is that Jayco don't think they can Groves back in 2025. Their two targets for 2025 were Plapp who seems to be delivered for 2024 and Groves - In a perfect world, Groves would be a better fit alongside Groenewegen BUT I suspect that outside of Ewan's ability to win big races, Jayco is looking at collecting UCI points, especially in one day races - I'm not concerned about who rides what GT as this will work itself out over the course of the season and the team has proven they can support both GC and sprinters at a GT. Jayco also has enough riders to support a sprint train for two riders - Mezgec is an excellent lead-out rider and Stewart can fulfill this role,
Jayco are so confusing. They somehow miss or lose all the up and coming Australian talent and only manage to get them back when they are washed, need bailing out or are surrounded by controversy.

This is a bit of a misnomer - The best Aussie talents from the last ten years in the under 23's were Ewan,Stannard and Power. Jayco signed them all and only Ewan transferred his under 23 form to the elites.

If Ewan gets his act together and Jayco sends him to the Giro d'Italia maybe Vuelta a Espana afterwards he's actually a good signing.

You only need to get him back on track psychologically. Ewan isn't washed IMHO, it's fully mental after his comical crashes / malfunction respectively.

There is no reason why Groenewegen and Ewan can's share the three GT's in 2024.

I mean Groenewegen doesn't want to ride the Giro d'Italia & Vuelta a Espana. Otherwise he would have done so this year already. That offers possibilities for Ewan indeed.
The reason why Groenewegen rode the TDF in the last two years was because the unsuitable profile for the 2022 and 2023 Giro and the 2022 Vuelta - Jayco like all the teams missed the boat with the 2023 Vuelta - Anyway, both riders have a similar profile so the road will decide - The big battle will be who rides the UAE Tour.

The Giro d'Italia had more flat stages for sprinters like Groenewegen & Jakobsen than the Tour de France!?

Nice to see Vergallito step up to the WT after all the nonsense he's had to endure from Italian media and other pro riders.
Go Bandito!

I have no idea why so many Italian pros are butthurt about a self coached guy making it via Zwift academy...
Like, that's the kind of stuff that I'd expect from a old, washed up team manager of an u23 team, not a current pro.

will be interesting to see if those two find another team. Sbaragli can maybe hope for a "return" to Q36.5, but Corratec has already signed Bonifazio, so I guess there's no room for Kuba.

JCL Ukyo will be based in Milan next year and got Volpi on board as a DS. Maybe they are interested to sign an Italian or two.

I have missed this, why did he get shiit from Italians?
I'll add some context to what Mayo said.

Vergallito didn't go through the standard Jr / u23 ranks and he's been training on his own for a long time, hence he's perceived as an outsider and someone who's "stealing" a job from other young Italian riders...
He also has a degree in sport science and has a very evidence based approach to everything cycling, questioning all the old school methods that are still prevalent in Italian cycling.
He has a podcast where he's been very critical of the youth Italian cycling teams / coaches / training approaches so it's hard to make many friends that way but I had hopes at least some not so old pros like Bettiol would understand where he's coming from. But apparently not.

His podcast partner Mattia Gaffuri will try the Zwift Academy this year and he's been through a similar shitstorm recently. Would be fun if he wins it as well or gets a pro contract any other way.

I suppose there will be an announcement from his future team soon.
I presume it's a typo, but when there is mutual agreement to curtail it, an 'ungoing contract' is a brilliant name for it.

yeah, but next year, or later on? They have this "Ukyo to the Tour" slogan for a while already, so it seems to be more of a long term plan.

Ukyo (or any other team) "to the Tour" is the usual PR stuff. but already setting foot in Europe and planning on a more Euro schedule is good.

of course, but I does sound like stepping up to PT is a goal at least indeed - although probably not next year yet, going by what Volpi said.

Eolo has just announced Penalver as their sprinter for next year, btw, so I guess that won't make things easier for Mareczko.
