I read that Mattia Cattaneo and Gianni Vermeersch are joining Red Bull.

And Adria is going to Movistar, and Welsford is going to Ineos or Jayco.

There are rumors in the German media that Jonas Koch is going to UAE, which is very surprising.
lmao, peak Unzué AGAIN. Just like Óscar Rodríguez and Sérgio Samitier, Adrià is a rider that was in the feeder, somewhat ignored, develops, moves on, then Unzué pays to bring them back.

Koch to UAE would be very suprising!!

I personally think that they need a stronger mountain domestique squad. Reg. sprinter: Welsford wasnt doing much besiders Tour down Under. On the other side such victories bring you some UCI Points.

I could be mistaken, but Lizarte wasn't officilay the feeder of Movistar even if they signed various raiders from there . And if the rumors are true next year Movistar will finally have a devo team.

Yes, I agree.

They need better climbers. They have Pellizzari and Lipowitz for the next few years. But there are too less climbers and Domestiques for the Mountains on the team.

Callum Thornley will be promoted from the rookies next year. He has a great engine, but he's not a climber.

They might also bring Lorenzo Finn into the World Tour next year. He's a great GC talent.

They have enough climbers but they never let them ride GT; always stick to the old gang.

I agree with you, but what do you mean with "pays to bring them back"? It's not like in football and if Adria was directly contracted by Movistar and his contract expired he would also demand a raise like now?

I hope they leave Finn with the rookies as planned. He is 18 years old. He's supposed to be a classement rider, that's different from a Brennan who's racing for wins right away. He should mature in peace. One more year (I would even like to see more, but that's unrealistic) with the rookies and a few more appearances with the 1st team.

Koch going to UAE would also surprise me a lot, I haven't heard of it anywhere either.

The team theoretically has enough good climbers: Roglic, Lipowitz, Pellizari, Hindley, Martinez, Vlasov, Aleotti. Behind them Hajek, Fisher-Black and maybe van Gils. You definitely don't have too few. The form is just not right for many riders of the team. Good teams also need time to grow. Until everyone finds their role, who is really captain, who is a helper and who gets a free ride in smaller races.
Take the ex-rider Majka. He has really blossomed as a clear helper. At RBH, however, this distribution of roles is not clear for many riders and the team is not yet so committed because there are too many changes every year.

Yes, that's what I meant. They don't have enough domestiques for the captains in the mountains. I don't think Vlasov sees himself in Majka's role at UAE.He still holds a leading position in the team management, like he did now in Switzerland. Or like at the Vuelta, together with Hindley. Majka, it was clear he would switch to UAE as a domestique. That's not clear in Vlasov's and Hindley's contracts.

Abarcá never had an 'official' feeder, but the connection with Lizarte was close enough to be unofficially so until Kern Pharma became a pro team with a formal direct connection. It's similar to how the Orbea team was linked to the Fundación Euskadi but wasn't an "official" feeder, enabling them to race in the same races as Euskaltel (which Lizarte never could, as an amateur team, whereas Orbea had a Continental licence), but served de facto as a feeder team. Abarcá stashed Richard Carapaz on Lizarte as part of the deal when they signed him over to Europe, for example.

Well, Rodríguez was a bit of an unusual case because he was part of the wrangling around Miguel Ángel López's re-signing followed by his Vuelta meltdown, essentially being part of a trade between Astana and Movistar. Also when it comes to contract negotiation, if you already have an asset, you can usually match what the market is offering to keep it, but if you are trying to win an asset you don't already have, you usually have to beat the market to keep it, so you have to offer more to entice the move unless a rider is unsettled in their current spot.

I don’t see how he would benefit from that as he would then not be allowed to ride any world tour races.

He is a first year out of juniors like Seixas who just finished 8th in arguably the biggest one week race of the calendar and he beat Seixas to win the worlds. You would risk stunted development like Jarno Widar giving him a heavily restricted calendar again next year.

Even in a world tour team a rider can drop down to ride with the devo team in lower level races to get leadership chances.

Yes, today everything goes higher, faster and further much sooner. But that often ends up shortening careers, for example.

There are certainly examples where it works. With the high-flyers. Whether it will work in the long term remains to be seen. Let the young people grow with a little less pressure. Even outside of cycling.
