But he (Rujano) hasn´t done much since his 3rd Place some years ago. He even was released from ISD last year. I personally think Rujano is a risky pick (and worth 2 points ;)).

Yeah, yeah, IN too.

I will suck for sure, since I always suck when you have to pre-predict so much stages. I am more the Analysator-type and specialist for breakaway stages.

But conditions are same for all gamers. Hard !

btw, why the 48h deadline ?
Can always happen something, cause its cycling, but I would at least wait till medical checks are over, or why not just......start of Giro (start of first team in TTT) as deadtime ?
I mean, its hard enough...:D

Because if for example someone forgot (or holidays, ill etc.) that he takes part in this game, i have time to send a "Reminder-PM" to the player, can wait for his answer. If nothing comes, i still have time to invite a player from the waiting list. That all has to be done in 24 hours. So i can´t move the time-table more backwards. But i think 48 hours before the Giro-Start, the complete Giro-Rosters will be announced. And if some strange things happen to riders, every player is still allowed to change the certain pick... That will/would be enough stress for the last 24 hours. So i have to leave that "last-24-hour-space" open.

I have you in too.

@ Everybody:

I think this is the best page for researching the stage profiles.

http://www.gazzetta.it/Speciali/Giroditalia/2011/it/

Omg, it seems every stage is at least hilly. Why is Cav participating?

Nothing like wasting time researching for these games :p

at work, wasted most of the day deciding my prelimary top 20.
brilliant stuff :D

---

i suggest cycling fever for stage profiles;
http://www.cyclingfever.com/stage.html?detp=view&_ap=omschrijving&id=21546&etappe_id=21940

the sprinters should be fine, as long as they quit after stage 12. 5 or 6 stages up for grabs. and 1 or 2 guys liek ventoso should benefit from.
following that stage, must be the most bad-as$ week I've ever seen.
Anyone competitive here will be wrecked.

---

ps; so many competitions going on here... should have a sub-forum. but that would probably ake something away from the games, so yeah. pointless post, ignore my rambles :p

I'm spending a ton of time on the CQ website to prep for the 2012 season. Hopefully all that time will pay off.

Now I got something else to look into. I love these competitions.

For the changes being proposed I think keep it simple. Its all about your skill in luck for picking the winner, be it a favourite or outside favourite. As soon as you bring in subjective "he's a favourite 1 point, he's not 2 points" scoring into it then it detracts, however impartial you try to be.

Imo, the only change should be the "prize money". It's a nice gesture to offer to part with your hard earned but this is an online forum and a mini game on that forum. We're all just in it for fun. :)

Oh and I think mods should seriously consider a sub forum. We have 3 current game threads running and 1 other online cycling game thread. Add this one + cobblestones and we have 6 threads clogging up the race talk.

I agree, i dislike the idea of some riders being worth more points then others.
Like foxxy said the beauty is trying to oust everyone by picking a long shot, if you don't, you don't.
The game is going to be hard already (picking a stage winner (max 3) for 21 stages ebfore the start and a top 20... should be great. Point variation in riders is totally unecessary, being different and succeding should be reward enough.

and yeah subforum could work. As games/competitions appears to be a big thing here. Plus it allows people to make threads and discuss something at greater details- i.e the CQ game.

It's so very difficult to pick the stage winners, given that you're only allowed one choice, and that you have to all stages before the first stage.

I've started by selecting three favourites in order for each stage. So far for stage wins I have

Cavendish (3)
Petacchi (3)
Contador (3)
Ventoso (2)
Visconti (2)
Anton (2)
Farrar
Di Luca
Rodriguez
Rujano
Pinotti

I would be happy if I managed to get three stage winners correct. Going conservative and just picking big names I feel is the best option. Contador might not win three stages, but he will probably get one or two, so if you pick him across three stages you have a chance of getting one of them correct.

yeah it certainly is hard to pick the winners.
I did a rough look and got something similar to you.
Picking breakaways is too difiicult I felt. but I may do so one or two stages :p

it will be a difficult game. I like it. :)

Not to mention when and if the "official" fantasy team games start up. Do you guys usually enter into those? Are Cyanide still doing their online TDF game?

You are all registered. 3 Spots still left.

Yes i stay with the original rules (inclusive the Wild-Card-Rule*), because i think it will be tough anyway.

(* i am eager to see i someone has the nerves to pick riders only from GEOX to gain max. maybe possible points. It´s not sure if for example Menchov earnes a stage win.)

Thanks for some hints. ;)
I think i´ll pick some breakaway winners too. For the TdF it would be "easy", just picking Voeckler. But for now, the Giro, i have no idea yet...
Di Luca is tough. How good is he. The old or a new man? Same goes with Rujano. It will be hard... And i think Galimzyanov or Hutarovich are also good ideas after i distributed Cav to 3 stages (as everybody will do!?).

If this is not allowed (i accept the rules of cyclingnews.com) the winner will virtually be awarded this: :)

?

By 'virtually' do you mean we won't actually get that? There must be some kind of incentive, as I don't think CN will allow the 50$.

If we don´t discuss the USD-Topic too much, i think it will be ok. I mean it´s a present by free will, so it should be legal.
Otherwise, how should i be able to send a bottle of champagne around the world? So as unfortunate as it is, the bottle can be only virtually. ;)

BTW, you want to register? I am not sure about your post in that case...
