Yes, this year he finally had the luck, with several punctures and incidents to his main rivals (sure, he himself also had one puncture, but at a moment where it was not dangerous, on the first section). But he just didn´t have the legs, probably because of his injuries that meant that he was/is still not 100%.
Honestly I doubt that he will ever win a Monument (I hope I am wrong). This could finally have been his year, but the crash in Spain ruined that dream. That been said, I still think he did a very good Monument Campaign, managing to finish 4th at Sanremo, 5th at Ronde van Vlanderen and 7th at Paris-Roubaix, despite not being at 100%.
Since he could not win yesterday, I am happy that Van Aert won. He deserved it so much.
