I am a bit surprised that Pedersen opted out of the Tour especially after having to abandon it in 2024 but I actually don't think its a bad decision because 2025 Giro has lots of stages that suit him so he should have a decent chance of taking ciclamino and in the Vuelta there are also several stages that he can contest plus the points jersey too.

Milan to the Tour makes sense as he is one of the three best sprinters in the world and can still be very competitive without a Pedersen lead out and I suppose Nys will get his chance in the hilly stages.
It's not his decision, he made a post saying he really wanted to do the Tour, but the team had other plans

Sure, but not letting Pedersen do the schedule he wants might make him consider his options for the next contract. Also a factor to consider.
Well, perhaps that's not at the top of their minds. He's 30 now so his next contract will likely not be cheap so perhaps they are willing to not let him step all over them to make him happy.

When they already have Milan and Nys who are yet to reach their peak it’s understandable that they might not think it to be in their interests in terms of budget and roster construction to give a 30 year old a big money 3 year deal of the type that Tudor could well be willing to offer.

He'd be very expensive for them though and they would need to have made it to the WT or at least have solid guaranteed spots.
They have backing money-wise and rides most of the classics. Can get invites to big races. Mads would kind of be to their advantage in getting them.

Think it would make sense. Given his age as well.

Lidl-Trek future looks bright with their young riders coming through and a good development team.

Them not starting him in the Tour is kind of sending him a message since they probably are in negotiations about the future or have been.

They don't really have the backing money-wise though. They just axed their development team to save money and cancelled other events as well. Hushovd has actively been looking for a 2nd name sponsor because there is a limit to how much Reitan are willing to pay out year over year.

It's unclear to me if he was told not to do the Tour, or if he chose to not do the Tour if he could not ride for the green jersey (with team support).

You know my position: it'd be better for his green jersey ambitions if he leads out Milan in the bunch sprints.

Yes, you've said that before, and I still can't at all see how that would be the case. As I am sure he couldn't himself either.

I would presume that sponsors would be willing to pony up more cash specifically for the purpose of attracting a big name home (Scandinavian at least) rider who can win big races and give them a high profile and good shot at wild cards.

How stupid can you be not to have him lead out Milan on the flat stages, Milan would clean house with that leadout instead of the usual mid tier Consonni one! Allow Pedersen to ride for himself on harder sprint stages and enter some breakaways and it's a no brainer.

Because they prefer sending him to two other GTs instead. And while it's possible to ride 3 GTs in a season, it's not very common and especially not if you want to perform well.

They probably think they can win a lot more GT stages this year by splitting Milan and Pedersen across the schedule.
