there's still the (easier side) of the Sormano though. So idk. Guess Pogi and Remo drop him there. There's only a shot if he somehow arrives at the San Fermo Battaglia with the others

Was already thinking he would ride it. With losing some weight just for 1 race, was hoping he will ride some more after the WC.

Good that he also tries classics that are out of his comfort zone. He regularly skipped both Liege and Lombardy but this year he changed his schedule.

I gave MvdP a pass on doing fewer road race days when he was still racing XCO MTB. But now he has no excuse.

The profile of this year's race forces strong climbers to attack far from the line. There'll be no mercy on Sormano. It's not even a question that Pogacar (and other strong guys like Remco) will drop MVP like a stone there. The question is if MVP is strong enough to be in a selected group or riders and chase afterwards. Even If somehow MVP is in the front group before Battaglia then an acceleration by some strong climber can be too much for him to handle after a hard race. Good that he tries though.

MVP will lose 3 minutes in Sormano. UAE will have Ayuso, Yates, Majka and probably Almeida. A mountain train with these guys is enough to kill MVP after 3 km in Sormano.

as for the Worlds RR though. After Behrens display I'm not so convinced it's such a climbers course anymore. It's a strong mens course as well.

Still means Pogacar has the upper hand though, but I don't feel like it's LBL and MVDP is not in the best 25 (but returned with slow pedalling from g3)

It's really 2 hills that he could individually handle but that are a bit too much combined. And I guess against 2021 Pogacar and Evenepoel it would look pretty decent for him.

Official? I’m definitely going to watch now. Doing the recon next week every day to possibly ride with him.

We'll never know because he didn't try. But he looked very frisky even 240 km in.

His own assessment was the move was too early and prudent riders didn't attempt staying with him for fear of blowing up. He confirmed who was the strongest in spite of the team power chasing Pogi.

Finished the best I thought he could with the route. If he keeps this kid of shape into following seasons he could potentially threaten Pog and Evenepoel in LBL and GdL, or be a favorite if neither take part. Solid defense by him.
