Teams & Riders The "MVP" Mathieu Van der Poel Road Discussion Thread

The oldest sister, who was apparently not one of the two playing ‘knock and run’ but applying a face mask in their room, is said to have told AD that her parents are not angry with her sisters but with Van der Poel, who they say came away from the incident lightly.

Tells you a lot

Apparently, Dutch journalists have been in contact with the older sister of the girls who played knock-and-run and she sent them the videos with consent of the parents. (https://www.hln.be/wk-wielrennen/ti...u-van-der-poel-je-hebt-ons-bedreigd~adc33b17/)

Interesting parts in the story:

  • They didn't know there was a WC cycling, they were on vacation and had no idea who VDP was.
  • The girls were in one room with the parents in the other room. The parents thought the girls were watching a horror movie but the older sister was in the bathroom while the younger sisters were playing knock-and-run. According to the older sister, the younger sisters frequently play knock-and-run in hotels and the parents know about that.
  • Before the knock-and-run which is on video and shows VDP chasing the girls into their room, they already played knock-and-run on his door multiple times that evening and even in the afternoon (according to VDP).
  • According to the older sister, the parents don't care much about what the girls did but they are mad at VDP and think he got off too easily with a fine.
  • The oldest sister feels somewhat bad that VDP had to miss a night's sleep for such an important race over this but her younger sister apparently doesn't care.

The individualism of some people is absolutely appaling, people like that should never have children but unfortunately they do.

Not trying to take it easy on VDP as violence is reprehensible, tells it all when the parents know their kids have the habit of playing knock-and-run in hotels and still let them alone in a room without proper guidance. That will surely teach them how to behave.

MVDP had some shitty and reprehensible attitude, but the whole parents things look like Karen and entitled behaviour. They can certainly be mad as how VDP reacted, but they should be surely as mad and embarrassed by their kids behaviour.

shitty and reprehensible would mean he beat the crap out of them. not chasing them and scaring them after multiple warnings.

I don't get why these girls are handled with cotton gloves for their actions. I also don't get why his actions are seen as bad when someone is harassing you. at what point can someone defend himself? never?
Would the cops have done something if he would have called them? Would the hotel do something that made it stop? From what we hear, the parents don't give a ***, the police won't take them away.
what is the next step to make it stop? really?

replace those girls with boys and would the reaction still be the same?

I seriously hope this family gets banned from hotels everywhere. Also plz ban them from airplanes and other vacation transports.

Yes I'm serious.

Yes, kids are saints, the joy of the world, bla bla.

I'm with MVP on this one or any other athlete or person that goes in a tantrum because of pesty, anoying, entitled kids that don't know one bit of respect even when they were asked to several times. Greta was just the beginning.

Have the Dutch Federation sue the Hotel and the parents.
Quote one post, just one, from anyone in this thread that says the kids were right to do what they did, or admit that you are misrepresenting people here.

As regards your Greta comment, read the forum's policy on introducing politics into threads and you will probably think that deleting t is your best move.

Admitting :tearsofjoy:

Where do people like you come from?

I couldn't care less about being banned just for mentioning Greta. The idea that talking about sports or this event surrounding MVP is outside politics is already madness.

Captain Hindsight here again but I still think it's so weird that neither his Alpecin nor Dutch national managers didn't take any security precautions. I imagine some of them have stayed in a resort hotel on a Saturday night before now.
By all accounts he:

Was sleeping in a room on a different floor, not the one allocated. This was ok'd the first day but the federation staff weren't aware he was still doing this.

Didn't contact either the hotel front desk or the federation staff to ask them to sort the issue when it started.

Let it go on for, literally, hours while making no attempt to contact someone who could actually find the girls parents and deal with it.

van der Poel talked to the media at the airport a little.

Admits he was wrong, but absolutely had no intention to hurt the girls.
Also said he should've let others solve the problem instead of trying to solve it himself.

No surprises.
