Why would that be important for someone with Bernal's palmares?

He had fun on his bike after a long time, he made the race and entertained fans. That's a lot more important to me.

Because he is paid by the team to achieve the best possible results. Bora's tactics with Pellizari were worse. Once, Roglic abandoned in stage 16 they had to have Pellizari sit up in that day. Then he would be allowed in the break and probably would have won one of the last three mountain stages.

I'm not sure I agree about Pellizari. Finishing 6th is a strong result both for him and for the team—it could very well be a sign that he's ready for bigger opportunities, in my opinion. Sure they came here for the win, but having Pellizari on 6th place is not bad at all!

As for Bernal, his strategy was likely coordinated with the team, so the responsibility doesn't lie with him alone. If they genuinely believed those wild attacks would work given his current condition, then they seriously need to rethink their approach.

Pellizari could not ride a proper GC because he waited for Roglic for two weeks and he was advised not to go full in the second ITT. I am confident he would have won one of stage 17 or 19 or 20 from the break.
