Rich CarlsonRegarding the Tour: You finished for the first time last year-how do you rate your progress there? Do you think you could win the Tour some day?
Lance: No, probably not. I'm happy with my progress; it was a good feeling to finish the race in 95. But is hard to evaluate because of the things surrounding Fabios death, Coming into the third week, I felt really bad but the last 3/4 days I felt really good, and I am not sure if it was an emotional thing or just getting better physically? Its hard to say.

I did learn to break the race up. This year I was looking at a 3 week schedule and taking it 1 week at a time. But I dont think thats how a champion looks at the race.

Um, well er obviously you haven't followed Lance's Chamois as close as I have, you should know that this was before he had cancer and lost about 25% of his weight then didn't put any on his arms. Trust me, I read a paper about, it was scientific and everything. And he got higher efficiency, that was in the paper as well, I mean just look at his cadence...

Sorry, pre-emptive strike. Yawn

He trains smarter...the rest are clueless and don't ride a mountain until July. In fact, they all just ride stationary gym bikes in training. Lance is the only one determined enough to hit the road.

Ummm, nooooooooo.

I am disappointed in you. You know full well that Euro pros don't train in the off season ;)

I'm expecting another change in Lancie's racing schedule, now the ASO have announced big changes to the Criterium International:

No way he'll want to do a 15km, 7% climb, in March, with those old legs.
De Panne will be a nice warm up for Flanders and a Contador free zone.

Funny enough, I was thinking the exact same thing. ASO threw a helluva of a monkey wrench into his program.

That's a nice suprise (for cycling fans). Wasn't aware that there's a HC climb on Corsica though.

You say Armstrong will regret? probably not what he would've expected, but much less what Voigt would've expected, I think.

Jens! is not defending his title this year.

thanks. Can't blame him. On the other hand It's to late for Armstrong to withdraw, he would lose face. Even Armstrong knows that.

No doubt Lance requested that the ASO toughen up the Criterium International in order to get a better workout.

Geez, some of you guys need to learn to how to Kill the Coward Within:)

Didn't need to ask. The ASO has a perfectly difficult race that he could enter called Paris-Nice. Or if that's not enough, he could top it off with the Vuelta ao Cataluyna. No, methinks Mr. Armstrong is hoping to avoid exposure as much as possible and thought the Criterium d'Internationale would offer him sufficient cover. Other than the Tour of California (and the Tour de Suisse (I don't expect to see him at the Dauphine) what other stage races is he entering?

Inland Corsica is extremely mountainous. The well off locals boast about skiing in the mornings, on the beach in the afternoons.
A number of 2000+ metre peaks.
This climb seems to be up a main route pass, starting at just above see level.
About 1050 vertical metres of climbing.

Cadel Evans should be very pleased to have such a finish, given his Giro start.

Being serious about Lance, for once. De Panne has been beefed up, this year. Quite a bit more climbing, so would provide much better Flanders prep.

Of course, the weather in Ostend, compared to Porto Vecchio, may have been a factor.
What, with his orange tan and all...

Claudio Chiappucci in 1995 on guess who:

"He's too clever for his own good. He's false. I know Greg LeMond & Andy Hampsten quite well, and they are not like he is. Winning the worlds was probably the worst thing that could have happened to him. He has very few friends in the gruppo".

More bad smells coming out of the Shack.

Where are the UCI when you need them? The guy signed a new contract.
Everyone knew, but Bruyneel feined ignorance. Didn't stop him going on with the scheming, though.
Now, Beppu ends up at the Shack, because they wanted his ethnicity.
Another example of the corruption of inertia, that passes between HQ and certain favoured individuals.

But AC couldn't get out of his Astana contract?? Wonder what would have happened if he'd said he was going to the Shack?

None existing

Beppu's case was one of a number of contentious off-season rider transfers that also included Team Sky's acquisition of under-contract riders Ben Swift (from Katusha) and Bradley Wiggins (from Garmin-Slipstream). Last month, International Cycling Union (UCI) President Pat McQuaid indicated that sport's governing body may move to tighten transfer regulations.

UCI are very far behind compared to FIFA. It's just ridiculous.

AC could have got out of his contract.

They renegotiated it, more money and conditions.
