I think someone summed this up well in another thread, the poster stated that if Contador was on the same programme as LA it would be like `a bike duct-taped to the space shuttle going up the alps', hope I got the quote right. To paraphrase this if Merckx was on the same programme it would have been like a `bike duct-taped to a Saturn 5 rocket going up the alps'. Merckx v Contador now that would be interesting.

Merckx said the same thing, he mentioned if he and Hinault were on that program, theres no telling what more they could of done.

What the hell is up with his abs?

hey oldman if you stumble upon this, Ive already set a goal, STP 2011. I have a friend who turns out to be a rider, I had no idea until he posted pics about it on facebook. Im excited to get going and experiencing the joys of the sport first hand, rather than watching it on tv

Good to think about rides but Cascade Cycling Club's STP has turned into a mass clusterf*ck. Many of the towns they are riding through are irritated by the shear mass of bad riders.
Some other suggestions: Tour de Blast (Mt. St. Helens route) or Ramrod. Much better riders and scenery. Then get your Cat 5 license and get your hands dirty and your perspective real.

what constitutes bad riding? are the etiquettes spoken and unspoken? I dont even know these things and I barely know how to ride a bike to begin with, let alone get into cycling

Pretty quick response, FlickerPolishScribe. The alarm bells must've been pretty loud over at Fanboy Central. Either than or we must get one Senior Fanboy per thread.

Moose go ride yer bike.

Sorry your hero was rude. I would be also if inconsiderate outsiders were in the closed area.

You have never been to the Tour. That is not a closed area. The Fencing you see is for the media broadcast area. The guy in the white shirt is walking along outside this area when Armstrong runs into him from behind.

So the general public can get into the bus/rider warm-up area? What is up wit the ropes where white t-shirt man is walking in ? What do the ropes represent? What is procol for rider and press interaction. Thank you Mr. Answerman.

I have been multiple times to the Vuelta, the Tour, the Giro, Worlds. I was at the Tour for 10 days this year. I was at the start of this stage, in the VIP area of course. This video is from the Finish

The finishes are normally quite open. Team buses can be parked down the mountain, or in this case in a open area. It is very normal for riders to have to go through spectators to get to the buses. The Red tape you saw was something the BMC team put up around their bus, it was not official. It is also very possible the guy Lance hit had a pass around his neck or a VIP pass around his wrist. Lance, nor you, cannot see that from behind.

There is no excuse for his actions. He is a petulant child.

It amazes me how blatantly Lance butts into this dude who obviously is just walking and not looking in Lance's direction and has no idea that he is coming up from behind. There haven't been any lawsuits and Lance seems sadistically reckless in this case.

Given that the old dude might have had a VIP pass, it seems possible Lance might know the guy and know that he can get away with an assault bearing no further consequences. Maybe they've had a fight in the past? The way he turns around to look at the old dude maliciously may indicate prior contact and dislike between them. Why take a chance to escalate emotions after assaulting a stranger for no reason? Maybe Team RS hire "whpping-boys" that Lance can sadistically beat for catharsis? :D

Anyway, what a bizarre video. It belongs with the "Lance & Levi/Johan Chat After Stage X" box set. ;)

Oh we are so impressed. You must be very important. You must have enjoyed seeing Armstrong getting into a breakaway in a mountain stage in one of the hottest and hardest days of the tour, the day BEFORE the rest day, putting the liars like yourself that he can't ride clean to shame.

But this topic was discussed here....

http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=8994

I thought it was funny that he still had his wits about him to fake this guy crashing into him after that extraordinary breakaway on a mountain stage (the day BEFORE the rest day - certainly put liars like you who claim he can't ride clean in their place). Despite his chaperone calling out, the guy casually walks out into his line, so he pretends that the man hit him, then pretends to be offended by being 'hit'. It is funny. Well played.

Anyway why would you even bother going to the tour? You don't like any of the teams, any of the riders, and you think the fans are gay. You only appear to be into the sport to gossip about Lance Armstrong like an old woman. I don't see what the attraction would be for you. Probably some corporate freebie job.

No doubt. What a ***. Granted, old Lance can't seem to handle his bike very well these days but there was still plenty of room on the right. In his defence, maybe that wasn't an intentional bump but yet another fall and the guy managed to keep him upright. He should have thanked the guy not given him the washed up version of "The Look" ™. You have to wonder how he's managed to escape getting punched out with cheap acts like that.

I was at the tour of cali which is not a grand tour. high security around the riders etc. not the place to be. Santa Cruz. I hate crowds. I do not think it is right to hit anyone. I have seen many riders get into it with press and fans on TV u tube. If Lance is abusive OK point it out. Is he anymore abusive then lets say another great humble champion Hinault? I do not know.
