Yeah, it was all about having a year of racing, better shape etc, etc yet he doesn't seem to be in any better shape this year than last time out.

He didn't race for a whole year, and that's the point. He did what he always did, which is stop racing in Europe after Tour was done. He very well could have ridden until the end of last year, doing some one-day races, the Worlds, etc. But he didn't. After the Tour he basically shut it down, like he used to do when he was winning it.

Except he can't win it any more. And all the hype from Chris Carmichael and others isn't going to alter this reality, as much as Armstrong's posse think they can bend reality to their will.

Come on, he's the same as last year and with team support and without breaking a collarbone, surely the expectation should be similar to last year. Why not?

Um, d'ya think maybe because he's a year further along the down-slope and most of the rest of the peleton are a year further along the up-slope?

Now that's Impey next to him who is listed at 70kg, just 1 kg less than Lance. Sure he's 4 cm's taller, but they don't look REMOTELY in the same weight class.

I've hinted at this before, but now I'll just say it. I've ridden by LP, and there is no way he is 155-ish lbs. He's more like 165-70. Unless he is just "light boned" :)p)

This time last year Lance had yet to break his collarbone - so there is plenty of time to peak for the Tour lol - that is IF you have the experience of Lance.

He has trained for the Tour how many times? The Maestro.

That said - no way he can be competitive with the youngsters. Although I would say he would kick the **** of a 38 year old Alberto or Andy.

There's only one problem, they aren't 38. But, you can comfort yourself all summer long with that thought if it makes you feel any better.

I'll stake my life on it that he won't finish MSR. In fact I'll never post here again if he DOES finish MSR.

He's not in the form to complete a race like MSR.

Just need to keep that for future reference if needed.

talk about surreal, I was joking when I said the mods deleted my avatar, I got a PM from a mod who said it was deleted due to complaints!

I guess the empty suit formerly known as Obama is really starting to grate on the nerves of the true believers.

As I said to the mod via PM: "Orwellian...."

Don't worry kids, I will find one that is at least as offensive. Something tells me the only party offended was a mod.

:(:( Very sad, and utterly pathetic. Of course most people can never accept that the two 'wings' they usually chose from in politics, are both fundamentally controlled by the same body.

I'll stake my life that you'll back out of that promise if it comes to that. In fact I'll never post here again if you never post here again.

You know what, I didn't like the avatar and so what? If people are so sensitive that they cannot fathom speech or content that differs from their own, then maybe they need to lighten the f up. I see you found a new one, BRAVO!!! If they delete that one, I have a couple of ideas I will send you.

At least your previous avatar could be passed off as some kind of political satire, instead of resorting to a lame "he's black, so he has an afro" joke from the 1950's.

Hopefully they'll have left it all on the road, and have walked away as defeated shadows.

France is no country for old men.

Let's see when AC is 38, that means Lance is going to be 50. Hmmm. 50 v 38. That's a tough one, but I think I will have to put my money on AC to win that race.

I put the new avatar up to mock the mods. I'll take it down later today. So are you the one who whined about the old one? :D

Why, of course ;)

Only joking, no, t'wasn't me. I didn't even realise the joker was Obama until all this fuss kicked off :D Besides, being from England we have no right to pass comment on other leaders with the idiotic Scotsman we have in charge. Hell, even Sarah Palin would be an improvement.

Anyway, back to topic. Yeah, that Armstrong's a ****. Or something.

I took the danm thing down. I felt a ban coming on.

Just be happy you aren't in Greece and call it a day. But there is another thread for that.

Its such a hard race. Its so fast but really really long. If you get dropped early you get swept up in the broom wagon. They have to clear the roads early and have the roads reopened by 5pm. Like I said. He won't finish.

Dude its March. Armstrong is not stupid.

What does that mean? It's March? It's March FOR EVERYBODY. Shouldn't he be competitive, on some level, with the others he's going to be competing with? He started his season early (TDU). He's supposedly in much better shape than last year at this time. His power is better than last year at this time (just ask Carmichael and his motor scooter). He's got a new position on his TT bike. He's at his lowest weight EVER (according to him). And yet he's results are the same. Saying it's March doesn't change that his media campaign has been about telling us all how this year is different. And before you say it was just fluff, his reaction after Murcia makes it clear (to me) that he believed that he was going to put in a good result--not getting shelled out the back on the cat 1 climb or that he would disappoint in the TT.

In two weeks it will be April. And before you know it May. What then?

A trip to a car showroom then to the bank.

Then why is he embarrassingly fat? Just look at those two pictures - he's fatter than Ulrich ever was and he's fatter than every pro cyclist in the entire pro peloton right now.
