You know, judging by the size of his guns in recent photos 'StrongArm' is becoming an ever increasingly accurate nickname...

:D

I must admit that i really belived in the Livestrong-spin machine, but judging from Argus, truth is that it won´t even be a competition between fatman and AC.

Realistic speaking, fatman will be driving "the bus" in July. Coming from a solid win at Paris-Nice, AC must be laughing looking at where fatman are now in the season.

Here. I'll give him some Livestrong gear.

:D that's the funniest thing I've ever seen on this forum! You should mock up one of Cartman on his trike. Shouldn't he be riding for Team Burrito Shack though?

A full South Park spin-off episode would be brilliant. Levi would have to be Butters and Taylor Phinney would be Ike.

Lance is looking pretty chunky now.

But does anyone else expect him to be 10-15 kg lighter at the Tour? Wasn't there a year back in his prime where he showed up super fat to Paris-Nice, dropped out halfway through... and then showed up fit at the tour and did his normal thing?

He's not going to beat Contador regardless of how light he is... but I somehow doubt he'll look like he does now come July.

Don't spoil the fun. Just pretend he will be super fat in July and won't make the top 20. Also pretend that Armstrong has vowed that he will definitely beat Contador even though he is saying the opposite.

I doubt Armstrong is actually "fat". This is what he looked like in the off season last year.

Fat probably isn't the right word...

but thick is.

Being thick in the upper body isn't really a positive for a cyclist I think. Extra weight to haul up a hill without much actual benefit from the muscle.

I think he has lost a lot of that muscle. He does have quite wide shoulders for a cyclist which has always made him look bigger than he is.

Some of you guys have a really unhealthy desire to continually look at a partially clothed Armstrong...WTF. Its bad enough I have to see those stupid ads on-line...He is fat...he would not have been packing on muscle this past offseason...its fat plain and simple. His metabolism has changed...get over it!

We can make fun of his gut, but the real issue is the amount of muscle on him. If he is doing the number of training kilometers that he needs and still retaining that upper body muscle then he has to be body building with weights. He cannot be very serious.

I don't believe I was the one who started talking about his body.

Take a good look at him the next time you see moving pictures of him at a race. He aint fat. Get over it!

He did not look fat at the Tour down under or the Tour of Murcia. Probably a little more to lose, but not fat.

....Around his waist?

Seriously - was the foto you posted off season 2008 or 2009?
He certainly is carrying too much upper body muscle, so I assume it was 2008?!

Even though he is 38 - I think he can get back in decent shape pretty quickly, however there can be no slacking off.
It starts this Saturday, at MSR - even if he comes in half an hour down he needs to put in the miles.

If you have broad shoulders than you have a wider body. Armstrong is shorter and more compacted and has an arch in his back, so he looks wider too.

Maybe it would be more appropriate to say the natural build of the pro-cyclist is more slim these days which makes Armstrong look bigger.

Friend of mine was driving in Cape Town and took this footage of muscle man training…. Look at the frame where he passes the camera…. that’s a gut!

Stopped the video at 5 seconds... wow (not in a good way).

I would say that I have a very similar build to Lance. According to wikipedia Lance is about 1/2 inch shorter than me. I am 5'10", 175lbs. Hunched over on his bike Lance looks exactly like I do, including the gut. I think 175lbs is a good estimate for his current weight. For an amateur like myself, its not a huge deal, but for him it is.

I dont think this is simply a metabolism issue. If it was I am sure that his trainers/doctors would have noticed his weight creeping up. And they would have noticed a change in his BMR. You dont just wake up one morning 10lbs heavier, because your metabolism changed overnight. And I dont remember seeing this weight at the TdU either.

IMO, this is a result of him realizing hes gonna get smoked come July. Sure he may have lost the weight, but that hardly matters. He knows he's done.

Again though... didn't he do this in his prime as well? Chunk up early in the season, go on a long break from riding, then come back for the tour 10-20 pounds lighter and tanned?

I seem to remember people on this board posting images of him one year at Paris-Nice where he was MUCH fatter looking then he is now. I think he placed somewhere over 100th in the opening prologue and dropped out halfway through.

And he then won the Tour... thin and tan.

I'm not sure how he looks now matters... he's never cared about early season races in the past... and I doubt he's changed (other then not wanting to compete in a race where he'll lose to Contador prior to the Tour).

What? I thought Cancer caused him to lose 20 pounds and that is what made him able to win the Tour after barely finishing?

I am having trouble following the changing facts around the myth.
