These are the words of a man resigned to the fact that he ain't what he used to be.

The time trial will be an important test. Last year I was not super in the TT but we’ve tweeked the position a little bit. The bike has continued to evolve and helmets too. But we mainly worked on the position and the training aspects of it. Last year I didn’t train very much on the TT bike which was my mistake. Winning now is not my obsession. I will ride as hard as I can and ride a smart race. Plus I’ll ride a time trial that is well tempoed. I’ll be watching the watts to make sure thay they are high and see how it goes.

I'd say. I mean, you looked like you were having 'cadence' troubles, so a quick 'position change' should do some good

Yes Lance. The helmet will make you faster

Good. Because none of us wanted to see you lose the plot completely in July when you lose. Oh wait, That would have been pretty funny.

Because in the Tour ITTs I blew up like a motha, and that was pretty embarrasing

I am still sticking with Plan A : No tour. Ever again.

We'll know better in a few days....

If I was a betting man, I would take that at 4/1. Therefore I am a betting man.

I still agree. But it has to happen in a way that he thinks fans can still say that he WOULD have won. Four months to go.

Maybe he should win something - or at least try, before July. Just to show that he still has it ...

He does seem to be talking himself down on purpose, but i think it's only the Tour of Murcia he is talking about. I can see how the quote can be misread.
Yeah, I misread it. But something tells me we're going to be hearing more of this kind of talk.

Well it makes sense to play the underdog and put the pressure on everyone else.

Yeah, he tried to do that in the past with Ullrich, but it was different. It was more about making sure nothing goes wrong ("anything can happen"), as opposed to essentially implying that even if all goes well the other guy is more likely to win.

They did not "Give" AIG 40 billion they loaned it $180 Billion. AIG sold their Asian group for $35 billion yesterday. This will go to paying down the loan which has about $70 billion outstanding.

That whole AIG thing is just one big clusterf*ck of a mess. Huge mess

While Lance wasn't like he was in prior tours in the ITT's... it's amazing that Lance "blowing up like a motha" was still faster then Gustav Larson, Dave Zabriskie, David Millar, Michael Rogers and Christian Vandevelde in the first ITT and faster then Micheal Rogers, Christian Vandevelde, Vincenzo Nibali and Stef Clement in the second.

If Lance's performance was "blowing up" then exactly what would "decent" be in your opinion? Kloden? Wiggins? Evans? Were Cancellera and Contador the only ones who did good?

A better plan would be to support Leipheimer and play the dutiful teammate to make up for his disgraceful performance last year.

Ok, well I did mean that each ITT he went out hard, then fell away compared to the leaders, expecting his body to work like it used to. Maybe not blowing up per se, but still...

Ah... I'd call it "fading", but that's probably semantics.

He definitely did in the Annecy TT. Was 4th going out... then a steady slide to 16th.

On stage 1 he was 10th at the time check and 10th at the finish. The "fade" in that one was Tony Martin. 2nd at the time check, 8th at the finish.

Lance finished 3rd in the tour at 37 years of age - a feat that will never be matched.

Raymond Poulidor was 3rd in 1976 at the age of 40.

The one thing that frustrates me so much about last years Tour is the podium. Contador was clearly the best rider. However Armstrong's position was certified by the TTT and the fact there was little opportunity elsewhere in the Tour for anyone to make up anytime. He was very lucky that he had the yellow jersey Contador in the team meaning that he didn’t have to ride an aggressive race – just hang on. Which he did. I don’t think that will occur this year but the results bar Contdor and young Shleck will skewed for reality. That’s the fault of the Tour route planners but they were expecting riders to attack over the Tourmalet etc. but Astana but a stop to any such nonsense.
