At the risk of being struck by lightning, I actually think it probably was more bad luck than not. He clipped a pedal in the roundabout, not trying to pedal through a 90-degree turn in a crit. It was also his left pedal (he slid from the inside to the outside).

I'm guessing he got pinched over a bit too far, and just kissed the left pedal on the curb. How many of us (especially Americans) have clipped a left pedal, or more importantly either pedal on a curb? Not too many, for sure.

I'm actually gonna give him a pass on this one.

Will I lose my hater membership card over this?

Is it ok if I just go on attributing this type of series of events as an instance of one making their own (bad) luck through total lack of preparation and focus?

I am not king of the haters, not even prince, but I am guessing a yellow card, some community service, maybe a fine....

Do you think Lance will be in a break over the next few stages? That would be interesing. However, I would not be surprised if Lance gets a DNS or DNF before the TdF is over.

If Lance goes for stage wins, I wonder if someone is going to play 'Simeoni' with him?

For my viewing pleasure, he should just pull out and return to Austin or wherever his palatial estate is located. This would eliminate the annoying Lance locator Radioshack symbol that has equal billing with the actual important leader's jerseys of the event.

Of course Bob Roll would continue to blather on about anything that he can associate with Armstrong. All Roll needs to complete his Versus ensemble is a round red rubber nose.

Have anyone else noticed the lack of tweets after this stage? I wonder why that is...

he's posting videos on you tube there's already a couple other threads. It would be nice if he accidentally posted txts intended for his lawyers to his twit account.

Sly one that Contador. He forsaw Armstrong's demise and the watch was an advanced form of psychological warfare that threw Armstrong totally off his game.

That's how I see it. Knocked him out without even turning a pedal.

Considering the beating the guys body and ego took, I don't think anybody in a position like that would be too tweety....

In the video of his @ss sliding across the pavement, it looked like he was tweeting at the time.

This. A million times.

Been reading this thread for a week now and it continues to amuse me how many so called cycling fans can't wait for Lance to fail. Here is a guy that basically has taken cycling to a whole new level worldwide, especially here in the US, which has brought interest and money to a sport that I assume everyone on this thread loves. Without Lance and what he has done over the years the casual fan would never become a "real" fan that follows the sport year in and year out and helps attract more money into the sport which allows more teams and riders to make a living and continue to entertain the rest of us. I can tell you one thing - with Lance out of the race for GC - there will be significant drop off in viewship in the US. A bunch of you are going to say great - to heck with the far weather fans - and many are. But many would have continued to follow the sport for years to come - as I have since I followed LeMond back in the 80's - and the sport would benefit.

I have no idea what kind of guy Lance is - except he does a pretty good job of raising money for good causes. I can understand if you don't like the guy and might root for another rider or even against him during a race. What I don't understand is the pure hatred. Besides - wouldn't it be more fun for LA to be there at the end and have your "guy" - whoever that is beat him - would cleary better TV.

I will miss him being at the front. Now take your shots.

One of the interesting things is they are mainly American. That's where the real venom is against him. I don't think they like America playing such a big role in the sport and prefer it to be a quaint little European affair where a select few follow it.

It's sad because there are some great American cycling fans out there.

Uhm, dude. He was going to retire anyway. I don't get it. What was he supposed to do to keep the casual fans interested? Winning the TdF until he hits 50?

LOL! That's good I like that. I'll betcha he was tweetin' as pieces of his skin where being left behind on the pavement. Them's some nasty crashes he's absorbed. Considering he'd never really been a crasher before and how many times the guy has hit the deck since his un-retirement I'd imagine he's getting pretty sick of it.

I mean, I've had enough road rash, stitches, and gnarly bruise's to know that a crash once and a while ain't no fun; to crash repeatedly in such a short period of time can't make getting back on the bike easy. Of course that's what pro riders do but still.... Kind of like CVV and anyone else who keeps getting back on the bike after beating the crap out of themselves like that, after a point, I'm not sure if I admire it or not. I guess for a lot of guys it's the only way they have of getting a paycheck, but LA isn't one of those guys.

He's probably thinking he should have stayed retired and just chilled in his house in Aspen boffing young Hollywood starlets. (Come to think of it, that doesn't sound too bad to me.)

All that said, we'll see what happens with Mr. LA next. He said he want's to enjoy the rest of his last tour, work for Levi, and maybe get a stage win. Now that the thought of and pressure of winning or being on the podium is gone, I don't see taking him at his word as too big of a stretch. OTOH, I wouldn't be surprised or blame him too much if he said, f**k it, there's a hot blond waiting for me in Aspen.

If I had to guess though I'd say he's competitive enough and cares enough, in the very least from a business point of view, about how RS does that he'll stick it out and do his best to help Levi get the best result possible. Maybe he'll even have fun. Man, would that bum out TFF et all or what?

For what it's worth, most of the people who don't like Lance don't like him because they think the evidence is overwhelming that he cheated his way to seven Tour victories, and that all the stuff in your post in just P.R. That's ultimately, all it really comes down to.

Got some evidence for that, or is it just "common knowledge"? IMO, Lance has had at best a minimal effect on raising the profile of cycling anywhere but in the US.
