The podcast thread

I do like the LRCP (Laterne Rouge Cycling Podcast) because they go live minutes after the end of the stage or a race and to a fairly good detailed blow by blow analysis so soon at the end. They do watch and cover a lot of races. Broe does a solid job of analysis and has gotten better at it year after year. Benji is a decent counter-balance and comic relief, though he isn't nearly as funny as he thinks he is. Plus he comes along as his own laugh track. Missing is some historical comparison, but they are young.

The chat area will melt your brain. Mainly because of guys like me and thank god for this forum for quality chat (in spite of guys like me). It's still not as bad as social media.

Chris Huge-Hands Horner is getting harder and harder to listen to. He releases them very late the same day and I think he zone 3 trains the delivery, because the guy takes maybe one or two breaths before going live and that's it. The good is the analysis is excellent with visuals and he covers a ton of stage races and one day races. The bad is he'll use the old sensational headline and try to protect the narrative too much of mostly nothing burgers.

Move podcast is good with all of them, Lance, George, Wiggo these days visiting there, Bruyneel. Caged gruppo obviously, but they all know so much all aspects the ins and outs of cycling.

I think Horner is getting better with his voice, well there's a moments when he gets excited and voice goes high pitch but I think he's getting better. Loving his 'My man Victor Camperaerts!!!' stuff :joycat: His knowledge and tactical view are most likely spot on.

Also Bobby and Jensie good stuff. Very good.

During the Giro the Cycling Podcast is hard to beat with Daniel Friebe showcasing his love and knowledge of Italy. They are currently having a bit of a rough Tour. The untimely death of original host Richard Moore still leaves a hole in the lineup. The current crew tries its best. Mitch Docker does his Aussie schtick. Richard Abraham is ok, but too much of a Cav fanboy for my liking. He might be better next year when the Manxman is retired. Graham Willgoss is the weak link. He's a cookie cutter podcast host, who displays little background knowledge or affinity with the Tour. He tries to match Mitch's natural informality with some kind of artificial mate-energy, which works out poorly.

I do regularly listen to LRCP. Their in-depth analysis of races is somehow satisfying, but really I dislike Benji. He's a dishonest hack and has an awful forced sense of humour.

The podcasts of the Escape Collective are generally quite decent. I especially enjoy the How The Race Was Won podcast (formerly Pretty Serious Bike Racing podcast) with Cosmo Catalano.

A bit of a left field recommendation is the Stanley St. Social podcast. They have an Australian Rules Football player as one of their main experts. That doesn't sound very promising, but he's actually quite knowledgeable. Australian pros like Luke Plapp also regularly appear on the pod.

Listened to/watched LR, Horner, The Move (and before the Move) and some nationals for years, but simply have to mention The Roadman Podcast.

Though a quite different ball game - interviews and not so much specific race analysis - I'll highly credit Anthony Walsh for being a good interviewer. The ability to ignite the spark in the interviewee and letting room for the words, and almost imperceptibly get into the slightly closer topics, without the interviewee slipping away, in a pleasant and comfortable way, without ending up in gossip.

It was only by chance I crossed the channel, last year just landed in Sicily the night before, trying to find data signal the family's remote holiday house. Very first thing greeted with was a suggestion of the channels interview with Greg Lemond, just uploaded less than an hour in advance - perfectly fitting I had rare two entire hours for myself just after lunch time.
The 94 min interview just flew by in an instance, when it stopped I was rooting for more. So been frequently visiting the channel since then.

Agreed. Such a pity that Friebe never does the Tour for them, he is just incredibly good. Probably my favourite voice in cycling. Brian Nygaard, however, is not, and they should find another cohost during the Giro.

And yes, the loss of Richard cannot be overcome for them. It's also sad that Lionel has reduced himself to be just a really boring advertisement voice and is no longer contributing with actual content,

I feel like every podcast these days have major flaws. I used to listen to The Cycling Podcast during every GT, but I havent listened for a few years now and won't start unless they bring the old group back (or at least 2 of them... its kinda hard with the last, unfortunately, RIP). On LR I enjoy listening to Broe a ton, but Benji is annoying and does significantly lower than 2 w/kg, so that goes without saying that you cannot trust a man who can't push more watts in his prime than that. The Move is way too many ads and not that much hardcore cycling coverage, although I like some part of their show, especially Hincapie. JB2 is pretty good, I like Bruynell most of the times, so thats prolly my most listened these days along with LR due Broe's analysis (I think its the best in the business) and ignoring Benji. Have tried to get on the Horner-wagon, I quite like him actually, but never given him a real listen apart from a bit here and there.

Horner has the uniquely American self-assurance that the way he imagines a name should be pronounced is the correct one, despite it having no correspondence with the pronunciations he must hear hundreds of times watching the races. Kind of wild considering how much time he's spent in Europe to have no curiosity or knowledge about how other languages work.
It’s like Bob roll saying tour day France

Like:
  • The Move - I like a bit of banter, I relate to guys giving each other sh**. Some pretty good stuff usually. Not too long, well focused on meaningful topics. Fun stories from back in the day. Wiggo was a great foil, he's already missed. They have fun, and having fun is...fun. No affinity for Lance, but gotta admit the show is well done, and has gotten better over time. Like that at least you can FF over the ads because of the QR code (on YouTube).

  • JB2 - More Bruyneel is great, the guy knows what's up from riders to tactics, to business, to emerging talents. JB Hager I can take or leave, but he's OK. It's in English, it's well informed, and they focus on things that matter to me. Has stood the test of time.

  • Wild Ones Pro Show - Just started watching this one, pretty good. They'll address the elephants in the room, they don't seem to be shills for the sport, they just seem to really like talking about it.
Just OK:
  • Roadman - Can be good but goes on a bit long on some topics I don't care as much about. Don't need 20 mins on Pogacar's dumb comments on CO. Love the Irish the accents. Girl is cute. A bit too serious for me.
Not Interested:
  • LRCP - I don't need an hour of blow-by-blow droning about the race I just watched. Patrick is OK, he seems like a good dude. Benji just seems like a kid who's trying way too hard. Can have good analysis, but during the Tour...just too much detail and not enough insight. I will say they (Patrick, Benji was just annoying) did the best the interview with Remco I've ever seen.

  • CyclingDane - Sometimes good content, but his race previews are just him droning on with no analysis. Not interested. The other guys he has on there are OK, glad to have english-language content. Too many bad episodes to be in Just OK.
Hard Pass:
  • Horner - Delivery is somehow manic yet monotone, and the yapping is incessant. Hands are totally annoying. Low budget production value. Cannot listen to him. Used to like him ok in other contexts, but the guy desperately needs a foil. Take a breath, dude. Analysis is as often dumb as not. Some good stories, but waaaay too annoying to sit through.

Stanley Street Social has not had a podcast for around 18 months, and it's been three years since they provided regular podcasts.

The Social Distance podcast.
These people are real,
YouTube and other outlets have a different monetizing method for content, so length matters and volume, so if you watch Horner for example, he is just forcing it, making too many videos because the money goes down on YouTube if you go once a week or even less. Social Distance is people having fun.

Chris Miller.. Very similar to Horner but has kind of an Australian Woody Allen feel to it..if a guy had a five day seminar about chain cleaning and what the global impact really is on girls riding bikes from ages 12-14..he and his partner have a nugget here or there but you have to really really search.

Semipro cycling
Lots of tech stuff, lots of it is good. Guy appears to be pretty nice and not full of himself.

Trainer Road.
Nice people, and they are not too serious about themselves and they don't position everything they say as absolute, as 100% the only way. Usually good.
Watched a recent talk with a scientist about the use of sodium bicarbonate.. I finished the video and will not be trying it!! Everything pretty politically correct but please watch it!! Sounds like you can eat some baking soda, get some benefits, but if your timing is wrong you have a gastrointestinal explosion in your shorts..

The Ride w Ben Delaney
Not much extended conversations, but guy talks about bikes, he talks to people from time to time.. I like the guy and he has a place.

Dylan Johnson..
Same as Ben, he is a decent guy and is more famous on social media for bike racing than his bike racing resume. He is above all the professional Cat 2 and 3s that have cycling perspective based on a thimble full of limited experience..there are dozens of people who represent themselves as " pro" racers and what they mean is they don't work, ride a bunch and have figured out a way to monetize their bike racing personality ..people who hold a pro license know who they are.. Internet doesn't check licenses so lots of people can claim expertise and it's mostly harmless.

I don't think that's true. Their latest episode was Sunday.

I don't particularly care for LRCP especially when they're on again about one of their "It should be illegal to end a mountain stage on a descent" deals.

Escape Collective is fun, I'm glad Cosmo Catalano is doing regular content again even if I wished they'd have him on the "regular" stage-by-stage podcast.

Zero interest in anything involving Lance Armstrong. I'd rather listen to a podcast featuring Riccardo Ricco, Dani Di Luca, and Vinokourov.

AHA. They are no longer downloading their episodes to You tube.
