The podcast thread

Chris Huge-Hands Horner is getting harder and harder to listen to. He releases them very late the same day and I think he zone 3 trains the delivery, because the guy takes maybe one or two breaths before going live and that's it. The good is the analysis is excellent with visuals and he covers a ton of stage races and one day races. The bad is he'll use the old sensational headline and try to protect the narrative too much of mostly nothing burgers.
His hands are just close to the camera! Notice how they change size depending on where he puts them as he talks! :joycat:

No one mentioning "and without further ado;"

If a cycling pod comes along I will listen, so thank you for this thread!!! Finally I know where to look for new podcasts or YT channels! But since I mostly just surf YT I just listen to what's there. I'm a noob and will eat it all up! But I want depth!

I am the exact opposite of others in regards to Horner it would seem. I don't mind his voice, I absolutely love that he takes his time. I actually really hate that LRCP are nowadays focusing at speed in commenting on a stage as it takes away the former depth they used to have. I used to like Benji a lot, but nowadays not as much. I liked them much more when they had time to think, before Benji was the rage on twitter.
I'm curious how the podcast will continue as Broe becomes Vlab DS.

JB2 already commented.

G and Luke Rowe are interesting to listen to and quite funny.

TCD is a bit soso, but I can enjoy some of their miscallenous content on their other channel.

Jens V was a long time since I listened to, but I used to enjoy it too.

(Remco and Rogla YT channels fun as well.

Out of commentators Orla.)

lance is pretty feisty about pogi outwardly displaying domination. Thinks he’s making a mistake for? Risking not being liked. Personally I’ve never heard lance complain about the cannibal himself

Lance was incredibly self unaware today. He said Tadej should ease off the gas pedal because winning too many stages gives people reason to hate him. He also said it invites people to question his performances. What Lance doesn't realize is this is a problem only if *you are cheating.*

Lance said he once won a race when he could have eased up, and he receive a call from the "controversial but brilliant" Michele Ferrari telling him he had made a big mistake because people would question his performances. Of course it was a terrible mistake to call attention to yourself *if you are cheating."

Lance is giving advice as if he is speaking as one champion to another. This is not the case. Tadej has won (or will win) three Tours de France. Lance has won none.

I don't know if this should be in the clinic. If so, I apologize.

Brian Nygaard, however, is not, and they should find another cohost during the Giro.
Nooooooo!!!!!
Daniel and Brian are perfect together! You're right, Daniel is brilliant when he is in Italy and the podcast is a joy to listen to! But I think Brian Nygaard is excellent, they are like 2 peas in a pod and these pods are must listen during the Giro.

I hope Daniel is featured during the Vuelta, they just need a good Spaniard on there as a co-host. They have had some on there that were ok, but I don't think they have anybody consistently contributing on a regular basis for the Vuelta

I took Lance's message as a warning that this type of domination will lead to more questions and inquiries and whispers (and shouts) of doping from the press. And its bad politics in the peloton. As killer as Pogi is, the rest of the riders seem to love him.

My take on the pods-
Cycling Podcast - sad sad loss of Richard has taken it down 2 notches. tbh I tune in for the Giro ones, have been skipping the tour this year due to no Daniel and hoping he will be back for the Vuelta. Mitch is actually pretty good on it.

The Move - Lance is annoying AF unless its the Tour. He doesn't follow the sport or the riders in general, he is a regular American fan lol. But he is excellent in his Tour analysis and comments. Johann is the best in the game for analysis and such a great cycling mind, great connections still. Honestly unless its the tour, its best when there is no Lance. Ads are next level annoying

LRCP - Quite good, the guys have grown on me, but too much play by play replay. Like I don't need to know the names of the 14 riders in the breakaway and the details of the 9 attempts to form it. Benji laughing at his own 'jokes' all the time is annoying. Could use a new co-host but probably not gonna happen. Patrick is good and obviously very bright.

La Movida - As a learner, listening to Johann speak in Spanish is *** awesome. Its too hard to understand natives for me!!

Geraint Thomas - Very good podcast, G is really good but something about it is just not right. Maybe the music hahaha.

Chris Horner - Amazing post race breakdown, nobody picks out details like this guy. He must spend a *** ton of time analyzing each race/stage. Amazing tidbits like when everybody was howling that Vlasov had a concussion and should have been stopped he pointed out that as Vlasov was remounting his bike, his foot was half on the tarmac and half on the gravel beside and probably making him mount awkwardly. He picks that kind of stuff up all the time. I give him a pass for the late posts for this reason

People didn't enjoy LA's dominance because:
  • He wasn't liked by the media and many other riders.
  • He was arrogant and never congratulated a competitor straight after a stage, win or lose. He has made comments about Pogacar and Vingegaard congratulating each other, saying he would have never done that.
  • Everyone had doubts about LA's ability after the 1999 win given he was never a GC rider and had cancer.
  • His 1999 positive sample and link to Ferrari.
  • He is American.
  • As we all know, he was hiding something so that is the main reason he gave stages away to get some people on his side.
Also:
  • Cycling has changed with riders riding fast from the start. None of this old school rolling for the first 50 km etc. So the attitude towards wins has also changed.
  • Pogacar had to deal with the stronger Jumbo/Visma attacking him for years and Zeeman and Plugge's arrogance. So more of a reason to give it to them.
  • Pogacar seems well liked by the peloton (which was not the case for LA).

Pogi is a friendly cannibal. “Hey, Pogi is eating my liver but he seems like a nice guy”

I miss Richard Moore every time I hear the opening song to the Cycling Podcast.

LA, Hincapie and Bruyneel still refer to themselves as 7 time TdF winners.

You can see LA's persona on the podcast and understand why he was not liked in the peloton.

He’s a polarizing figure for sure. It he gives a good podcast. Got into the game before you knew podcasting might be as influential.

Best thing he did was get Hincapie in as an anchor commentator for his title show. Plays the perfect balance to lances personality.

I don’t think bruyneel can travel to the USA. Sound right? The podcast format heals that divide

Any listeners of the Move as obsessed with Hincapie as I am? Also, DAE think Johan is like a father figure to Lance? Bc Lance's dad was never around.
The show got much better when George was on for me. Perfect counterbalance to Lance.

For Johan, he likes to remind George and Lance that he actually rode in the peloton with them. They both respect him like a father figure though and frequently refer to him as their senior.

George is the perfect antidote to LA, I was waxing philosophical on this to my husband! I love when George mentioned he would trade gels and nutrition around the peloton bc people didn't like Lance enough to trade with him :tearsofjoy:

I love the tactician perspective of Johan. Seeing footage of him in the car, it's so neat to hear him cheering on George, the positive things he says. LA has made more statements like he and Johan were partners in crime, "of the same mind" (ha, we know) but I do think he filled a father figure in LA's life. Hearing Johan talk about the days when everyone could hear everyone else's radio, but Johan got a scrambler and could control what others *could* and *couldn't* hear was so funny! Also he speaks 6 languages super well (which I find fascinating as a sort of polyglot) so he def used that to his advantage.
