Would that be me you're referring to?
No, I was referring to the Mod here (who is/was also an amazing bike racer, but that is beside the point) who also said he knew some of the guys at rapha and who was talking about smashing people’s heads in who offended his friends, or something very close to that.

One thing you don't hear about is people complaining about shoddy quality or service from Rapha.
Very true, but for the price, I would hope so. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Rapha as Damiano does, but I think it’s ugly (at least what I saw on their website) and it is way expensive considering it’s made in China. I don’t have strong opinions in this, as some others appear to, but found this thread very entertaining…

Funny thing is he complains about Rapha's faux attitude, yet hold up Assos's models who evidently wouldn't be seen dead on a bike.

Like I said, I don’t agree with the OP about many things (based on his posting history) so I am not defending him. I do see his point about this Rapha stuff, though, but I’m only casually observing and don’t really “care” to any great extent. I’m not calling for a boycott of the company or anything like that. I will say, though, that when I saw that pic of Jeremy Powers in the Rapha kit, my initial reaction was along the lines of WTF !?!.

So, I am just agreeing with the OP regarding a few specific things: taste, price, faux history, perhaps… I'm definately not into the Assos thing, either. To me, they come across as being very similar in ways

Edit: OMG those jeans are awful
They're for riding FFS!!

OK, what gets me about the jeans is the pink strip. Has nothing to do with riding.

I looked around their website a bit more and enjoyed the write-up on Paris-Brest-Paris. I still don't like there stuff (the way it looks) regardless of cost.

My opinion is not based on the attitudes expressed in this thread, but merely my checking out their website. I have nothing against the company.

Edit: OK, the plain black shorts look fine, but that shirt & matching hat... pink, red, black, teal, tan.

Well I'm not buying assos while that little monkey looking guy trying to show off his six pack is the centre piece of their Aussie mag ad campaign.

The power of marketing.

Not all of it is made in China. As I have said before my chief gripe with Rapha is the marketing. I find it phony, overwrought, and manipulative. It rubs me the wrong way. On top of that, I do not care for the 1950s - 70s look. I care for it even less when it is a cynical aping of the 50s - 70s under the guise of being classic.

I am waisting time at work reading the Rapha website today as a result of this thread (work is slow). They appear to be a lot more than just a clothing company... it's sort of strange, maybe a bit cult-ish ?

I agree with you- I don't like the way their stuff looks, pink or not. Some interesting stories on their website, though... Just browsing it to kill time.

I don't have a strong opinion on this. When I saw their USAPCC videos, I thought it was a bit strange that the "team" warranted so much attention. Now I see it was their idea of marketing.

Honestly, the style of those vids and the choice in music seemed a bit "ghey" to me, but that's me. I'll probably catch flak from some here for saying that, but I'm only voicing my opinion.

This has been a good way to kill time today...

If you have some time to kill go to the exteondo website. Go to about us, to history and then to 1988.

Worth it just for seeing some of the best cycling legs ever to turn the big ring. Authentic retro.

It is lifestyle marketing run amuck. Espresso machines, clothing for city riding, soap, and soon cologne and body spray, everything that the aspiring epic cyclist needs to tell himself that he is living the life.

They have to keep the riff raff out of the club. They do not want someone who might do something as uncool as wear a helmet while riding. That would not look right for pictures. Wait for the brand to be sold to Salomon. Excess inventory will show up at the Sierra Trading Post just like it now does for Arc'teryx.

I hate the stuff. It is more than lifestyle marketing taken to ludicrous levels. It is a brand that is barely half a decade old pretending that it is steeped in the history of the sport. The entire brand reeks of phoniness.

Why the jealousy and anger? Just chill out and don't buy if you don't like. No need to be a hater.

You need to read more carefully...or more like less carelessly. It is not about vanity. It is not even about price or quality. It is about phony baloney marketing. I would say the same thing about an australian winery promoting itself with sepia pictures of frenchmen in berets picking grapes. I will say the same thing about the Outback Steakhouse, an american creation based in Tampa, Florida that has nothing to do with Australia and in its commercials uses a voice actor with a fake australian accent.

As long as I am on the subject of Australia, I would like to mail a few cane toads to ACF94. Which delivery service should I use? Will they notice a few holes in the box and the occasional ribbet?

I cannot read all the words debossed into the surface, but from what can be read, it sounds like a really lame saying from a self-help or positive thinking seminar.

....wow!...too cool for words....

...thanks for the heads-up...with x-mas coming and already owning everything a human could ever dream of owning( if fact I have two of the really rare and good stuff ) this is the perfect bauble to help me stand out in the crowd or is that to be included in the crowd...jeez I can never get that right...whatever, that is really beyond me or beneath me or something...

...ta ta, have to run...my post training ride massage is calling...

Cheers
