I only knew spunk from other contexts. But yes he shows great determination.

On a side note to the side note: my grandparents always said the same, and, concerning cycling, always pointed out much how hard work it was, so they forgave them their sins and admired the grind.
lol... I thought twice about using the term spunk, but I did mean it in the literal sense. :D

Yes, the way you used it indicated to me a gap in my knowledge about the word. Why I know this term in it's colloquial meaning I have no idea, given where I live it might have been a random brit talking about it in the U-Bahn.

Meanwhile it's 4:2 Alcaraz in the 4th.

Due to rain several matches have been suspended, fortunately we do still get Swiatek v Osaka because they get the roof. Should be a good match, I hope.

After Swiantek took the fist in a lopsided tiebreak, I thought this might only go for 2 sets, but now she's 2 breaks down Love-3 in the second set.
I've been trying to get some work done so am only catching the match here and there, Osaka is playing rather well isn't she? (I know she's had some drama in the past, but don't know what's expected of her now.)

The commentators on German ES said it would be her first win against a Top 10 opponent since 2020.

She plays pretty good, in the first 3 games of the 3rd, she hit like 9 winners. And she looks like she still has spunk.

Did anyone catch the Djoko match yesterday? I'll have to watch the replay, or at least the second set, the second set sounds like it might have been a good one.

It wasn't.

I watched the first couple of sets & it was terrible. Djokovic was as bad as I've seen him play at Roland-Garros. The score is deceptive, i.e. both players were awful.

He won't last long if he plays like that again.

Ah, I won't watch the replay then, thanks for the recap.

There's the whole 'this is my last Roland but possibly not' thing as well which screams 'he's tied up in multi-year sponsorship deals so he won't quit yet'. There's absolutely no way Nadal & his team can seriously imagine he'll be better in 12 months time. So his lack of proper 'hero worthy' send off & retirement ceremony is purely for financial reasons IMO.

The seeding issue won't be any better next year either. He'll still haver a tough draw & be a year older.
It's starting to be pretty pathetic, though I was never a fan of his game. He is doing great at sucking up all the media attention though.

Seems to me he hasn't made it past the first or second round in years (?) so I don't really see why this latest match was any different.

Swiatek had a scare but tenaciously and patiently crawled her way back for the win - incredible! (Thought Osaka had it, but she fell apart in the third toward the end. Hopefully next time.)

Wawrinka should just retire. He’s 39. I can see him retiring this year. Only one of the ‘old’ guard of GS champions could be left, and that’s Djokovic. I am not sure he’ll stick around for much longer either.

Dude, in 2022 he won the first 19 Grand Slam matches he played...

But yes, after that, it has been downhill (ie. rock bottom).

Griekspoor why are you doing this to me
Being a Zverev fan ensures you some very exciting four hours multiple times a year.
Meanwhile the schedule makers have been drinking the Dimitrov koolaid and had to put his match on Chatrier so now Djokovic will have to play into the middle of the night.

Ridiculous. They still think that Dimitrov is this ‘baby Federer.’ As if he’s won many slams and therefore deserves top billing. 😂

I mean, they had to get the game done because it had started yesterday and Dimitrov will have to play tomorrow but I guess they were either afraid of more rain or didn‘t want to put him on court 11 or something. It‘s just a bit weird because now Djokovic‘s match has started almost as late as possible.

Bah, Djoko is an old pro, don't think he's worried even though it may be past his usual bedtime.

Djoko finding a way to hit the ball into the net - please don't do that anymore. My play (and rudimentary knowledge of having played tennis in the past), says don't do that.
