Listening to The Police and watching Andy Murray moving like Elvis Costello to match a young Tsatszikipas on a Friday afternoon. Pure Bliss.

So, Andy is done. Haven't watched seriously tennis since Borg, Connors and McEnroe times and of course our man, Ilie Năstase. Does anybody here remember Stan Smith? Sure I'm aware of Boris Becker and lately Federer , Nadal and vaccine free, diet freak Novak Djokovic GOAT. Anyway, most of these new guys suck except Alcatraz.

I mean, watching Fat Stan sweating like James Brown (still with some grand slams to show to his nephews) getting destroyed by a bored Djokovic is not fun.

Đoković should until he wins 30 slams, which, considering the competition, could be within 5 years.
Djokovic isn't gonna dominate forever. But if he's gonna win 7 more, he better get it over the line quick.

He isn't gonna dominate until he's 40. Just watch him outside of the Grand Slams for that. Also, linear decline of aging is overrated IMO, nearly every career gets killed by injuries or recurring injuries. And Djokovic has his minor injuries that affect him outside the Slams. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes cortisone injections but limits them to Slams only.

Medvedev is supposed to be no 3 in the world, today looking more like Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky on a tennis court. The Hungarian dude is doing a Pete Sampras impersonation.

Pyotr Ilyich Medvedev turned it around but Fucsovics still hanging on. Good match. Meanwhile the Birdman of Alcatraz is struggling with a Chilean dude.

Stan Smith was a little before my time, but I definitely owned Stan Smith tennis shoes. Loved them and still do, such a classic design...

What did you make of Lendl? I hail from Czechia like he and I thought he was such a typical Cold War product. Good tennis player, but zero personality.

Stone cold killer, poker face. Definitely one of the greats! Devastating forehand. Don't know if you are familiar with the band Talking Heads, to me Lendl was some sort of a David Byrne, no smiles, weird, icy. Personality? Leave that to the McEnroes and Agassis..

When I think of Lendl I think of Drago from Rocky IV - like you said he was ice cold, no smiles, just getting the job done like a machine. It was a different time back then...

Still nice they are dressed in white. Watched Rolland Garros and the dudes looked like they came from the beach.
The white is always nice - crisp and clean. Of course, do you remember Anne White wearing a white bodysuit at Wimbledon back in '85? That caused such an uproar. Of course, Serena has worn much more outrageous outfits since...

Speaking of the ladies I remember the battles between Navratilova and Chris Evert, didn't like Evert back then because Bud Collins had such a hard-on for her. It was always Chrissie this and Chrissie that, the fanboyism was nauseating. I don't mind her now.

Navratilova! Yes, the lady who looked like a man, turned out she was lesbian. Then Steffi Graf came along, the female 10 x Boris Becker. Good times, compared to now those were like Hollywood movie stars, they had a certain appeal and charisma. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's nostalgia...

Can't speak for the players of the 80's, but the nextgen et al. are nearly all full of undeserved confidence and instagram cringe.

Veni Vidi Fognini said it best.

This Next Gen thing is ***, I didn’t like all the attention that this initiative has attracted. The ATP does many good things, but I don’t agree with this one, I don’t understand this Next Gen thing. I don’t agree to all this attention given to these young players .They play well, but there is such a frenzy about them, I don’t like it, I don’t agree. If someone plays well, he is going to get attention anyway. Winning 10-8 in the fifth on court 27, you have to go through that, not playing [Roger] Federer on Chatrier. They have to eat more pasta, run and win matches.

Hurkasz could trouble Novak, but he’s getting maximum 1 set. Bublik is also capable of troubling the top players, and he’s finally starting to put it together. Could be a really good match with Rublev.

Berrettini could be a wild card, but if his serve is a bit off, then he’s in trouble, because his return games is not great and he doesn’t have a backhand. The slice can be useful, and he can do ok with it, but he’s no Federer with that shot.
