In the article he said that he kept pulling with the Stavelot stage in mind. "J’ai continué à rouler car je pense surtout au maillot jaune à Stavelot."

So it shouldn't be naivety but also tactics. Call it arrogance perhaps, but which top athlete isn't. None would have liked it that way if they are sucked wheels for so long. Natural reaction.

Beaten once more, and probably in the same way as stage 1. He is the new leader though.

Wheels coming off the Merckx hype train once he hits actual competition

Because he finishes 2nd twice, behind guys sucking his wheel before outsprinting him, while taking the GC lead?
Personally i'm glad he's come to face reality, it will only help him. The amount of raw potential is staggering, but racing tactics, bike handling, conserving energy... plenty to learn before he can live up to his potential. As it stands, without improving those facets, his carreer will look a lot more like that of De Gendt, than that of Merckx. The sooner he realizes that, the better.

Sporza followed him this weekend. I love this kid. His confidence, determination and leadership is already incredible, reminds me of C. Ronaldo.

In the second stage he told Thomsen he would gift him the stage if he did turns on the front. In the TTT he had to wait on the climbs not to kill his mates.

Edit: oh and he did the TTT 'at 70%' :D

his date of birth (15 October 1998) is given in your link
Hence why i asked. In that case he'd be too old.

He wants to test himself vs the big boys in 2021. See how far he can go in Giro/Vuelta/Tour.

But maybe it's time to cool the hype. After all...

an interview in flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad :
https://www.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20180807_03652037

it's not accessible if you don't have an account which I don't have...

the entry just reads that he won a stage after a solo of 40 km and during the TTT his teammates cursed he rode too fast....

I will post a botched google translate, and not the original interview:
(Edited some of the botched English, so at least you understand what it's about)

Remco Evenepoel (18) won the queen stage in the three-day Aubel - Thimister - Stavelot on Sunday after a solo of 40 kilometers. The European champion from Schepdaal got some angry looks from some mates after the team time trial because he ... rode too fast. We spoke with him after his new demonstration.

AFTER YOUR DEMONSTRATION AT THE EC YOU ALSO DEMOLISHED THE COMPETITION IN THE TOUGH FINAL STAGE OF THE THREE-DAY AUBEL-THIMISTER-STAVELOT. DID YOU ENJOY IT?

Remco Evenepoel: "My closet is already full of sweaters because I won besides the yellow and green jersey, also the polka dot jersey after I previously won the Belgian tricolore and the European jersey. "
"In Stavelot I found my training course on the final day, I knew that I could decide the race there in my favor. In the first two stages it was mainly about not losing time. In the opening stage, I got in front with an Eritrean, who floored me in the sprint."
"In the team time trial counted the time of the third rider, so I had to wait a few times. In the afternoon stage I got in front with a Danish rider that I promised the stage victory on condition that he took turns. I obviously kept my word. It was a win-win, because before the final stage I was already in yellow. "

THE WORLD TITLE IN INSBRUCK WOULD MEAN THE CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT AFTER ONE FABULOUS SEASON?

"That is still seven weeks away, I'm still preparing one Italian stage race. I 'm still convinced long training sessions are best, so that I actually have few race days. After the European Championship, I even planned one rest period. Now there is another Ardennes internship with the national team."

"Afterwards I go with my father (ex-pro Patrick Evenepoel, rwd) to Innsbruck for three days to explore the World Cup. On sunday i attacked at the Haute Levée. Afterwards followed other well known slopes as the Rosier
and Thier De Coo who acted as allies to expand the gap with the pursuers."

THE COLUMBIAN TOP RIDER BERNAL TASTED AT 21 THE TOUR. WILL YOU WAIT THREE YEARS?

"In 2021, in my turn, I want to dig up the battle ax in one from the big rounds. Based on the wattages I push, I look look forward to it. I think 2021 will be an important year, but focus first on the remaining months with the juniors."
"I would have liked to have made the step to the U23, but the UCI set the light on red on the basis of the regulations and then there is no need to waste more energy talking about it. My season has already succeeded, but also the remaining races i would like to win. "

Just saw that video and gotta say Evenepoel comes across as somewhat of a bully. Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't ...to me.

Evenepoel set out to destroy his teammates in the TTT, too. He was told to go easy but no, he just had to embarrass them.

The problem is, that his teammates just aren't good enough. He dragged the team during the TTT, they didn't have to do many / long turns, and still they lost the TTT with half a minute. So, without Remco, they would have been dead last probably. So they can't blame it squarely on him, because even with a mediocre time (and with hardly having to do much of the heavy lifting), they still couldn't follow.

Also, i don't know if you follow football at all, but Ronaldo is the definition of a ***.

I do agree, he's a bit too aware that he's the center of attention. As i stated many pages back, i honestly hope the media hype will die off a bit, when he moves to Quickstep, where he won't be able to ride races where he can blow away the competition. He should be kept out of the spotlights the next 3 years.

Also, DNP-Old posted the video above from a different server so that there is no regional content locking.
