I think Remco’s best bet is there being more than just he able to follow Pog giving more variables and more opportunities for tactical solos. I think that is very doubtful but in my view his most plausible route to victory.

I would be pleasantly surprised to see Vigne competitve as he is someone who could hang with Pog on the climbs but personally i just don’t see it two weeks post Vuelta.

I don’t understand what you mean by cook him on the flat. If he is putting effort on the flat how does he win the sprint if he’s not dropped him as presumably to try and cook him he’d be doing most of the work making him more fatigued for a sprint?
Because people die in the wheel of Evenepoel. Due to his position you still catch a lot of wind and you still have to go +50km/h. He cooks them. That's how WVA died in his wheel during Brabantse Pijl

Interview with Evenepoel later this evening.
  • He traveled via Ethiopia to Marseille, had a smooth flight, and immediately explored the time trial course.
  • Wind will play a major role on the course, which could benefit him thanks to his aerodynamic position.
  • Rivals such as Filippo Ganna and Joshua Tarling are present, but Evenepoel has beaten them before and doesn’t feel intimidated.
  • His freshness after the long trip is still a question mark, but he’s positive about his form.
  • The European Championship road race on Sunday is his biggest goal this autumn, even maybe more important than the World Championships, since it’s the only title he hasn’t yet won.

It's the theory, but it doesn't always work. Take Amstel - he worked harder than Skjelmose to bring Pogacar back, did far too much work even once they'd caught Pogacar, and lost to both in the sprint. Neither Skjelmose or Pogacar are anywhere near as aero as Remco, but they're both quite small guys so maybe the effect isn't as bad as if you're a bigger rider like Wout?

While I don’t think he will, it would be better if Evenepoel (or someone else) did win the EC that way we can actually see the jersey unless UAE combine it with Worlds somehow. Evenepoel’s best chance is more riders being there at the end and he counters an attack.

Pogacar was actually faster than Evenepoel mano a mano on Sunday so not sure how you think it can be possible in his current shape. It's not a flat/rolling race where Evenepoel can be super-fresh, it still has some good climbs to fatigue guys with lower w/kg.
