It's the theory, but it doesn't always work. Take Amstel - he worked harder than Skjelmose to bring Pogacar back, did far too much work even once they'd caught Pogacar, and lost to both in the sprint. Neither Skjelmose or Pogacar are anywhere near as aero as Remco, but they're both quite small guys so maybe the effect isn't as bad as if you're a bigger rider like Wout?

I don’t think he would get cooked.

Some people really live in a fantasy world. Pogacar gained time on Remco and there are people who still think Remco can cook Pogacar on the flats. They will have another letdown on Sunday.

I don’t think he would get cooked.

He seemed the freshest at the end of the worlds despite 60+ kms on his own. 24-25 Pog does not get cooked. Ever.

Van der Poel on the cobbles of PR a possible exception but i agree it is really implausible to think he can be cooked particularly in relatively short race

This can't be serious. How can a race with so little prestige and importance be his biggest goal?
Or maybe this is Remco's way of coping and trying to motivate himself?

While I don’t think he will, it would be better if Evenepoel (or someone else) did win the EC that way we can actually see the jersey unless UAE combine it with Worlds somehow. Evenepoel’s best chance is more riders being there at the end and he counters an attack.

It’s a coping mechanism. If he had to chose he would always go for WC RR, but I do think UEC RR is very high on his list. Just so he completes his bingo card.

Pogacar was actually faster than Evenepoel mano a mano on Sunday so not sure how you think it can be possible in his current shape. It's not a flat/rolling race where Evenepoel can be super-fresh, it still has some good climbs to fatigue guys with lower w/kg.

I think Evenepoel gains more in the flat sections than he loses uphill. And now there is much more flat compared to WC RR

Maybe but it's still a long way to tire Pogacar in his current shape. A sprint is quite possible, that I can agree with.

Sure, and then we'll see who has it. Pogacar is in skinny TDF shape, since WC RR was 5500 altitude meters. I can imagine he's a bit slower than normally, while Evenepoel should be faster compared to GT shape.

Marginal gains only for Remco vs Pogi, it must be like 100 km flat and no cobbles to make any difference.

EUC will become prestigious fast.
I'm sure of it.

I'm doubtful mixed relay will ever get far given it's format and all that. Maybe if it exists long enough.
But EUC will find it's way. on a good point in the calender. Add a nice looking jersey to wear in the mix and it will get big.
Not sure how people don't see that.

The true is: Remco doesn't have any weapon to beat Pogacar on sheer power. MVP has his sprint, Remco doesn't.
Remco can be closer to Pogacar in championships because Belgium is a lot stronger than Slovenia. If Pogacar races for UAE, any race will be transformed in a W/Kg contest without tactical situations and this is why Pogacar normally destroys the field (including Remco) by a lot.
Remco is marginally faster than Pogacar on the flat after a hard race. These are facts that no one can contest after last 2 years events.
I remember Remco going away in the Tour (gravel stage) and Pogacar closed 12-15" easily.

But we don't need to wait a lot. In 4 days, Pogacar and Remco will "fight" again and we will see if Remco is able to follow or catch Pogacar.
