By all means, aim for 3rd. As long as he still goes for the classics in the early season and wk/lombardia at the end. I don't mind just having a podium spot in the tour if that allows him to go fully for the classics. (much better than targetting the giro and do neither properly).

Make yourself the human behind the aliens in the GT.

The take away he can have is that he shouldn't follow the accelerations but just ride the tempo he can. Ignore those 2 when they are going thermo.

Remco superstar status is a bit of an hindrance concerning the TdF.
He won't do the TdF unless he feels like he has a serious shot at winning it.

When Pogacar did his first TdF in 2020, he wasn't yet a star, there was not a lot of expectation behind him even though they knew he had a lot of talent already (3rd of the Vuelta at 20yo).

By now anything less than beating peak Vingo by 5 mins is a massive disappointment for Remco.

I'm trying to make a poll here, but don't exactly think I can make a proper one: What team will Remco race for in the 2024 Tour de France?

SQ
Ineos
Bora
Israel
or other

We can only hope and pray that people in professional cycling circles didn't fall and hit their head and think, either this or something similar. And you now see this infection throughout pro cycling.
. Carlos Rodriguez..22 and expectations way, way, way too high about who he is and will become.
Pogacar being discussed as if he were 50 years old.. Instead of 24 coming off a broken arm.( wrist) and Remco w a grand tour under his belt, being talked about that he fancies himself as a TDF favorite.. he would be disappointed with anything other than a win on his first try...hogwash.. all of it completely silly.. Remco has shown stage racing development and showing absolute mastery of one day events.. I am sure he is wondering where he fits in the food chain given his current contract, and team make up. He is probably thinking about Pizza Hut contract and how silly a rainbow pizza really is..
I really hope that a true Pre Madonna rider doesn't emerge and say.. " I will the TDF..should be obvious, because of how great I am "

There was not a single important stage that JV or UAE did not control. Ineos were the third best team and even they didn't last long against the top 2 powerhouses. So unfortunately there is no team for Remco wherever he goes that would be good enough for the TDF. So he just has to follow the JV/UAE pace. When Pogi attacks, Jonas will go and when he comes up to him, both will slow down. Remco has to take advantage of the rivalry to slowly claw back upto them. In the third week, one of them will crack and the other will be tired, so the chances of an ambush increases. At no time should Pogi and Jonas be allowed to unite against him.

Wasn't this always obvious?

Evenepoels team is terrible, and the main issue is it doesn't even support a solid Giro or Vuelta bid or a TdF podium bid.

But to beat Vingegaard or Pogacar he himself has to make a big improvement still

The Old Man to say "We go to the Giro in 2024, we need more time to build team for the Tour. Maybe in 2027 Remco and the team will be ready. Hopefully at this time Pogacar and Vingegaard will be burnt out , ehm, going strong too."

The Vuelta was already hard, but it got even harder now.

Curious in what shape Vingegaard will attend, and if Remco can come close to his climbing peak. But even then it will extremely difficult to beat Jumbo.

Every contender will go out there with a sidekick who could win the race outright. Remco gets to go out there with Louis Vervaeke and Mauri Vansevenant. :tearsofjoy:

Masnada is at the provisional startlistt of San Sebastian. After San Sebastian it's 4 weeks to la vuelta, enough time to do a big training camp, probably at altitude. So maybe masnada can go there in his best shape and then he can be a nice sidekick of remco, just as he was with almida in il Giro 2020

Well he can still make the podium... 2nd/3rd will be hard contested.

With his team, there are no options to play games or whatever or plat tactically. He will be riding at the front alone when everyone still has 2 or more guys. Even when the favs go... Maybe he should assume he is riding for ineos and follow them. (ignore vingegaard or Roglic who ever of them attacks first )

So if Remco wins the Vuelta, people will say:
1. Vingegaard was not in the best shape because of the hard Tour;
2. Roglic was not in the best shape because of the hard Giro;
3. Ayuso is still young;
4. Geraint Thomas is too old.

So another Mickey Mouse race on Remco’s palmares…
Yep, he has practically already won it. Just needs to show up now.
