I like the idea of evenepoel going to the tour together with Vinge. It’s his first tour, with the best team, no total pressure on him, he can ride podium in Jonas shadow, win like Kuss, or take over when anything happens.
Why would Remco choose to be number two on JV when he could be a number one rider elsewhere? If the merger goes through he is a free agent.

People from Evenepoel's entourage according to today's L'Equipe: "Everyone knows that Remco will never ride for Plugge. When the merger will happen, he will just sign his contract (already written) with Ineos. In 5 minutes, it will be done."

Is that his dad talking? Maybe that's what will happen but what about his strong link with Specialized?

Not sure I get why he would "never ride for Plugge".

It sounds melodramatic (& entirely made up). I reckon L'Equipe is not the best source for any real news anymore. Just like French cycling in its ensemble, their sources & journalists tend to exist on the periphery of current events in the peloton & they get stuff wrong all the time. I remember when they ran with the headline a couple of years ago saying Tom Dumoulin was "according to their own sources" leaving Jumbo & signing for BikeExchange (as it was at the time).

So wait & see.

Although tbh if Evenepoel does go to Ineos & Ratcliffe buys Man Utd, he might find himself moonlighting as a player for United. He surely couldn't do any worse than the sorry lot they've got in the team these days.

It is of course a great opportunity for INEOS if the whole SQ team is set free. If they had the money ready to buy him out, they can now spend that budget on signing up his core support team (a few riders, personal coach, soigneur etc) to give him the confidence that the transition will go smooth. Specialized is important but purely focussing on the technical support (critical for him as top TT specialist) I am sure that Ganna's team has what it takes to support his future TT goals.

Ten Hag not taking *** vs Patrick Evenepoel *** letsgoooo

I don’t think Vingegaard gets sole leadership at the TDF. So why would Remco have a bigger chance at INEOS compared to Visma to win the TDF?
This is a rider who has absolutely dominated the GC at the last two Tours, but you don't think he's going to get sole leadership? This makes no sense. Right now only Pogacar and Roglic are even living in the same universe as Vingegaard, no one else is even remotely close, and that includes Remco.

You think if this merger wouldn’t happen and Roglic stayed he wouldn’t be co captain?

You know what, I’ll bet my avatar that if the merger happens, Evenepoel rides in the same team as Vingegaard and they both go to the TDF, that Visma will say they are both leaders
Berniece, I see your point but with all due respect I believe there's a flaw: Vinge (the fish) is on a high right now after his last two TDF, and if they get Remco and he joins in for the race Jumbo would only say "Remco is co-leader or co-captain) only to appease him. Remco is too much of a winner to play it out for Vinge (Remco is and will be training to win it himself), so it would have to be on another team. There is also (and I say this carefully) the idea that Jumbo is being closely watched for clinical reasons, and Remco wants no part of that sullied reputation. I could be wrong and I often am, but that's my opinion. Go Remco Go!!!

There is (and I say this carefully) not much difference in that regard with Ineos or Quickstep... so that would be quite a BS reason.

Remco may want to lead a TDF team, and at Ineos he'll probably get that chance, but I think for him it would actually be better to not have the complete pressure at what will be his first TDF. Vingegaard doesn't need him, but he could use Vingegaard.
