Schachmann didn't seem to be his usual self in Poland, though. He was considered one of the favorites, but failed to deliver (regardless of Evenepoel)

In Algarve he was up there with Evenepoel, except in the TT - which makes sense.
So... he wasn't. That's how stageraces work. Both Foia and Malhao are climbs that are not made for big timedifferences. One isn't steep enough, the other isn't long enough.

Schachmann did have the legs in the other races he entered this season, but for some reason not in Poland. I believe he was the odds on favorite ahead of Evenepoel (should've been ranked #2 tops if the average Joe had more basic cycling knowledge, but still), yet he couldn't net a top-10 result. That wasn't just Evenepoel's doing. The uphill sprint that Schachmann botched the day before told me that his legs were probably not that great.

Yes, it happens that a rider doesn't have the legs, but, because of that, I don't think Schachmann is a great example to use to play down Van Aert's high profile wins, relative to Evenepoel's wins. Fuglsang rode both races and got destroyed by Van Aert and Evenepoel respectively. Probably got destroyed harder by Van Aert on a course that should have suited Fuglsang better as a medium mountain / hilly classics specialist vs. a rider who is most suited to Paris-Roubaix. Or at least, used to be...

The thing is that Fuglsang looked to be stronger than Wout when he made his attack. Then he got screwed by the heat.

There were not many moments where he looked stronger than Remco in Poland.

And yeah, Schachmann was evidently lacking. You could, as you say, see that in Zabrze where he was riding with his tongue dangling from his mouth on an incline that shouldn't have bothered him at all.

It would be interesting to see Wout versus Remco in a race soon. Do you guys think it will happen?

If PCS is correct, there's no overlap this year, Remco is doing Lombardia, T-A and Giro, Van Aert is going to the Dauphine, Tour and cobbles races.

Has Evenepoel said anything about Flanders/Roubaix? Probably too much if he finishes the Giro, no?

eta: ah, the Giro overlaps with the cobbles anyway, so most likely no.

Looks like we'll see him and Mathieu van der Poel at Lombarida–until the last couple of weeks that was the one I was more interested in, Wout hadn't done enough to make me think he was going to be great. Looks like that's changing. I think MVdP is going better than his results might indicate, but not sure if he's ready to win Lombardia just yet. I would put nothing past either of them, however.

No way VdP is going to come close to victory in Lombardia.

MVDP has been getting a lot of flack lately. Maybe his fans expected too much. He was great in RVV, but was motor paced in AGR. Not sure if he has the "engine" to become a legendary rider. or even win a race as long & hilly as AGR again without a huge amount of luck.

Never mind Lombardia. Not every rider keeps improving ...we'll see.

I'm actually really excited about the Belgian ITT this year. Who do you think will take it? Remco or Wout? Or Campenaerts after all?
My money would also be on Remco this year. I think Wout has trained less on his TT bike, and he's lost weight, which is bound to cost him a bit of power.

Solid blast, but I don't know , not a guy I would ever dismiss, myself.
Can't see it happening. Unless circumstances played a huge role.
