Health and safety first of course, but with the current messages it might be time to think about racing again, and I sincerely hope this crash won't affect Remco in the head. Nibali now knows what he needs to do if Remco's still around after two weeks.
But isn’t this descent known to be particularly dangerous? He can learn from this and play it safer in the Giro.

So, did the team actually coach him with this? I basically predicted a scenario where things like this happen, months ago. I find it difficult to believe i was the only one who could see something like this happen. Nibali pushing in the descent, Evenepoel trying to follow and pushing his limits, which is always dangerous in a descent. Normal 20 yo's have been riding maybe 10 years, are riding at a much lower level in the U23's, or after going pro', they get to learn in the peloton for a few years, before having to race for victory. That only usually happens after having completed a grand tour or two, where you get dozens of descents like this. Remco didn't have all that.

He did not even have to keep up with them, I'm quite sure he would have caught them afterwards anyway.

That's wasted energy though. Especially with onlye 3 teams in a 6 man group you know they'll coordinate against you.

Seems like a brash mistake. They happen. I don't have him pegged as a rider who will *** his bibs next descent. And being fresh also helps for a descent, but I don't know how deep he went at the Muro.

It looked like he still was pretty fresh. He went straight to the front in the beginning of the descent, but on a flatter part let everyone pass.

He was behind a few meters already. I dont think he had the rush to catch the front any time soon. It was most probably he didnt realize the sudden narrowed road.

Hope to have more good news from him.
That's exactly what i meant. There was no need to take risks, with his ability, even a gap of 10 seconds wouldn't have mattered. I just feel the team should do a better job at toning him down when needed. Being able to stomp hard doesn't mean he's suddenly experienced in all other facets of cycling as well. He must have known the road narrowed there, because he had done a recon of the final multiple times.

According to VTM news he might have a hip or pelvis fracture. This would make more sense seeing how he was lying there.
Ugh... that's not at all good news.

With a broken pelvis, it's a legitimate question whether we'll ever see the best of him. Not every fracture is the same, but it has chances of being a career ender.

IIRC the track specialist rode the tour once with a broken pelvis, obviously there are varying degrees of fracture so let's hope it's not too serious.

Exceptionally hard to expect such a young lad to keep up on what was a truly awesome bit of descending from nibbo, no matter how great a rider he is.

Beloki and Vino injury, no one of them returned to the same form ever after it. Femur and Pelvic fractures are serious stuff for a top level athlete
In Belokis and Vinos case they both landed straigt on their side. Lefevere said that Remco landed on his feet and that the impact of that caused the fracture. I hope that means that this fracture isn't as bad as Belokis and Vinos, but I don't know that.

It's the injury that pretty much killed Beloki and, who's to say, Froome. Tons make a full recovery, but it's a scary fracture. I believe Merckx had a similar injury to the pelvis. What speaks in Remco's favour is his youth.

I must admit, when Nibali went to the front, I did wonder how Remco would handle the descent; if there's one thing we don't know about him yet, it's his bike handling/ descending under pressure.....

Fortunately, he's 'escaped' with still serious injuries - but it looked horrific. Best wishes for his recovery!
