Fausto has WT win, he won a beautiful stage of the Giro into San Giovanni Rotondo.
Indeed, a fantastic win ;)

Masnada is an excellent "allround" rider. Unfortunately, he doesn't excel in any discipline. So it will remain with one-off nice victories. Furthermore, he will mainly have to work as a teammate.

That about sums up the Italian Daniel Moreno.

I am not buying the Masnada is gonna work for Van Wilder thing.
This is obvious.
Masnada found a brilliant way of not working for Almeida even if the latter was in pink. If Van Wilder ends up in pink Masnada can just copy his 2020 Giro.
Drop early on the climb, ride your own pace 5-10 seconds behind your leader all the way to get a solid GC position.

It could. If Evenepoel uses his tactics as he did as a young rider. Follow his gut feeling and attack from far enough on hilly terrain. On hilly terrain he can make the difference. Not on real climbs.
It's not about Pogacar not being able to follow that attack on hilly terrain. But does he want to, quite far from the finish ? Give Evenepoel more than a minute, then Pogacars team and himself won't close it anymore. That's why I hope that Evenepoel really rides on his instincts. Attacking from afar... and probably losing and not riding a classification. But what a spectacle with a small chance of success. If Evenepoel cycles defensively, he is also beaten. But then he might end up in the top 5 or top 10. But Evenepoel doesn't have to come to the Tirreno for that.
An attractive proposition that would really provide a spectacle for us as fans but maybe not the best for his development as he needs to really go straight up against Pogacar and see where he is on the climbs to look at the GC potential in the biggest races.

His ace card would be the tactical willingness to shred the race from 50-75km out and dare the others to trust their domestiques to hold a gap or immediately follow and isolate themselves

I give it one or two more weeks and then I am going to read that Evenepoel is the clear favorite for the sprint in Scheldeprijs…

He missed 2 nice opportunities this weekend with the Omloop and Kuurne. A calendar similar to Pidcock would be more interesting than all these stage races, and would probably suit him way better. Give him 10 sec like a Benoot got this weekend and the race is over.
How does it suit him better than stage races?

He could well win a sprint stage by default sometime if the rest of the QS train can't keep up with him and let the wheel go, either on purpose or otherwise.

Like the Brussels Cycling Classic you mean? Won by Ewan, Groenewegen, Boonen, Greipel, and.... Evenepoel?

Or the Coppa Bernocchi won by Viviani, Colbrelli, Nizzolo, and... Evenepoel?

Or Overijse where he followed Sénéchal?

Since he returned from injury, Evenepoel raced 5 semi-classics with 3 victories and one top 5. So yes, I really would have liked to see him race omloop, kuurne, e3, dwaars, wevelgem, amstel, ... because these races are very open which is exactly what he needs.

Not reading too much into it but Kung and McNulty have shown some amazing form.

perhaps gives remco’s performance in algarve (particularly the ITT) some perspective…

I don’t know every little detail about these small races with very limited quality fields you mention. But didn’t Brussel Cycling Classic and Overijsse change the parcours in recent years?

Bernocchi was impressive just like the others. But in Omloop it will be much harder for Remco to get a gap. It is risky for him riding these races. And there is no reason for him yet to make a switch, because he is doing just fine in stage races I believe.

But ok, if Overijsse/Brussel/Bernocchi are now semi-classics in cycling that can be compared to the Omloop and Kuurne then it is very clear that I have missed something in general.
