Wasn't Evenepoel on a training camp in the Pyrenees in July or was it Ayuso?

Remco altitude training this July was 19 days. 8 days at top of passo San pellegrino, in dolomites, where Vincenzo often stayed between dauphine and TDF. And then about 11 days at Livigno where quickstep always does their July altitude camp. I don't think remco ever has done a camp in Pyrenees. Teide, Sierra nevada, livigno/San pellegrino and sincosfera in Denia are where he goes.

I think you're massively over estimating his win in the Vuelta last year. He has never proven himself over 3 weeks against a field like he will face in a month.

I’m talking about winning generally. As I said, this years edition will be much harder.

Evenepoel watched the 2023 Tour de France on television while at an altitude training camp in Italy to prepare for the World Championships and Vuelta a España.

He was impressed as Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar fought for the yellow jersey and accepted that he has some work to do to compete against them in the 20024 Tour de France.

"That's a very difficult question. We will never know. We will know next year probably," Evenepoel. said when asked if he is close to their level of performance.

"But if I have to believe the calculations, from the watts per kilo and stuff like that, they're numbers I have also been pushing already. But of course, it's day after day (at the Tour de France). So I think they achieved an unbelievable level this year, an incredible level.

"Now it's up to me, I have one year of work to make big steps forward, to come close to those two crazy guys and super good riders. I hope to be up there with them next year."

Remco is arguably a better chance to win Le Tour next year than Pogacar. We still don't know what his ceiling is, and he has a Vuelta, WC, LBL (x2).....

I assume the poster means that Pogacar has come up short twice in a row VS Vingegaard now. So how much better than the level of this and especially last year can he realistically get? Where as Evenepoel is still unknown in a face off in july, is a year and a half younger, had a 1 year setback so could have more room to improve than Pogacar.

Anyone that would attempt to extrapolate Pogacar's performance at this years TdF to his chances next year are simply being disingenuous. He had VERY inadequate prep this year.

Which also means absolutely nothing in regards to Remco's chances in 2024.

The hype goes as long as he is winning all those little races such as the Classica, LBL and the WC with long solo attacks. Smart people here believed that after his 2019 win in the Classica that would never happen again. Remco knew better. Per definition, the big boys don't care about one-day races where he is on the startlist so he is free to demonstrate his solo victories. Dumb spectators feed the hype but the big boys are laughing into their sleeve.

There is a bit of truth to it though. Part of the hype is that nobody really knows what he's worth against the best riders in the world right now, in their best shape. And apparently, neither does Evenepoel himself.

Sure, and that goes both ways. Where were Pog and Vingegaard during the WCC? Where was Vingegaard during LBL?

Yup. It sounds like Danish media already proclaiming 2024 as Vingegaard's as well, despite the very obvious fact to anyone that Pogacar could train outside for 3-4 weeks. Lets see Jonas winning the Tour if you switch the preparation - wait, thats not going to happen.

Evenepoel having a better chance than Pog is obviously complete bull. At this point, he should be the 3rd best on paper though.

That's assuming Vingegaard had perfect prep last year, which (according to Dumoulin) isn't the case. And his trainer has said that with him it's a matter of not doing too much, because he gets in shape really quickly. Same goes for Pogacar, probably. I know that there's this narrative of Jumbo being like a couple of monks and Pogacar being this happy-go-lucky guy who does whatever he wants, but in reality they're probably not that dissimilar.

Personally i don't like him, but we need guys like him in the race. Guys who attack from far, without fear. We don't need wheelsuckers, and this guys is not one of them.
