One has to wonder who still thinks otherwise. Last time i set foot in the "big6" topic though, plenty of lost souls still did.
I dno, its not really a discussion IMO. MVDP and Jonas are highly specialized and are insanely good at what they do, and would definitely in some years or eras considered as the best riders, but you can't argue with that Remco just did and has done the last 2 years

If Remco can repeat what he did at the Olympics at the Worlds, he should be declared the first ever undisputed world road cycling champion.

He'd have won the Olympic and world TT and RR

Baby pog out there making history love it. Cycling is in a really special era right now isnt it with those two coming up coming up and only 24 and 25.

Great double by Remco, what a rider he is keep taking leaps and he can become one of the greats when its over -- if he continue to improve.

Me too. Waste of time.

well I wouldnt go that far, but I just dont see what he gains from it or Red Bull either, surely his next main focus is worlds, and this feels like a category of race thats below his level and prep required for that.

Remco has a massive chance to win the World TT. Just saw the route. 46km long and more than 70% of it is flat. There is a lumpy bit in the middle but it has gently enough slopes of 5% gradient.

I think he'll take this title too.

The RR is just two days afterwards. The gradients of the main climb that they repeat 5 or 6 times is about 2km at 6%. So it suits Remco. Of course Pogi is good on such terrain too but he'd prefer a slightly steeper ramp to allow his 15-20sec power stomp to be more effective.

Interesting times ahead.

Btw, loving the silence of the Remco haters right now. What a bitter little world it must be to not acknowledge a great rider when it's staring you in the face.

Turned out all he needed to do was to get lean. Now, in a month, he's 3-4 kg heavier in ToB, and will race against the clock again to get ready like he did in Dauphine. Ups and downs in showbizz

To be fair, I've seen a fair number of "not a big fan, but gotta give him respect" and even the occational "I thought he was overhyped, but I gotta say he's living up to it".

I'm waiting for the "I was totally wrong about Remco, to the point of offering fairly delusional race analysis about how he kept managing to drop the entire peloton".

But I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one... :D

I'm a hater, but as that is unrelated to his strengths, I'm totally unmoved in that regard by today's performance.

Do you also think it shut up all the haters when Lance took the record number of Tour wins in 2004?

OL in cycling is second to WC and not comparable to GT's some of you guys😂

Impressive season by Evenepoel by far the second best rider in the world. Awesome season.
After the race, in many interviews the riders themselves, pundits rated the Olympics above worlds. Maybe the heat of the moment, but still. Reasoning was you only get 1 or 2 realistic chances in a career. I wonder if Pog will regret not racing today.

His parents also said that podium in Tdf and gold medal were the big targets this season.
Now he wants the TDF they said…..

Last year I still doubted his grand tour credentials, but no this.

He obviously has the ability to win the Tour but things would have to go in his favour assuming either Pog or Vigno stays healthy, because there is still a step to go.

I've had my problems with Evenepoel, but more so with his fans... I didn't take the time to read more than this page, but it seems that some of the fan problems are not gone, but I guess they should enjoy, when if not now.

While for Remco I have nothing but respect and admiration for at least a month now. Not only as cyclist, also as a person he made great progress in my eyes (that observe "reality").
And in the tour he climbed better then I ever expected him to.
Maybe even surpassed Roglič for the third place as far as current and future GC racing capabilites are concerned, though I will wait for Primož to do another phoenix-like return before taking that as certain.

Really a shame Pogačar missed the race, would be really great fun with him also in the mix.
But as far as LBL speculations go, I'd wait at least to the end of current season, more likely first spring races of the next season, to see if Remco will add another step, otherwise the result is known.

I questioned the hype two years back but was never a hater.

I still fell for Lance's myths in 2004 and cheered his 7th straight "title" in 2005 so that isn't relevant.

Today's performance was great. Remco was the overwhelming favorite and delivered by yet another solo breakaway where no other team or rider was strong enough to counter. His strengths are quite incredible. Winning that way is infinitely more impressive than winning a sprint - even a MTF. He already won the Olympic TT title convincingly, and just achieved a podium finish at the Tour. Kudos from moi.

Most outspoken haters gonna hate. It doesn't matter what happens. It's preservation of self-image. However, there is a point where the hatred becomes hollow and not alligned with anything real. It takes courage to admit it.

So it's his personality that you dislike?

I remember being happy to see Cavendish shouting at a mechanic because it confirmed my dislike of him, lol
