Did not say their national race does not mean anything. It's always an honour to win that title and get to wear the national jersey of your country. But I do feel certain Titles just hold more weight for a number of reasons. So yes, i do feel the belgian title is objectively bigger than some other national titles. Just as i feel the italian jersey is objectively bigger than most other national jerseys as well.
I think I get what you are saying. I mean, as a Canadian, I know lots of Canadian riders who would be enormously proud to wear the national champs jersey. But the Canadian RR (or TT) title does not bring the same broad gravitas as the Belgian title brings. Different nations with different footprints in the world of bike racing. I mean, I doubt being on the Belgian national hockey team is the same as being on the Canadian national team. Whatevs

Which has absolutely nothing to do with whether it was a reasonable decision for Evenepoel to compete in the Belgian championships, and even less of an answer as to whether Koopa was making a point when he suggested that it was a worthwhile decision.
I haven't even commented Remco's participations in the nationals. I replied to Koopa's post where the poster argued that Belgian Nationals was comparable to classics.

They’re referring to the overall win, not stages in a stage race from the last part of their post.
Not unless Dwars door Vlaanderen is a stage race? Only counting overall GC wins or 1 day race wins is ridiculous. Either discuss stage race GCs or classics, and then it's a fair point. But excluding stages in WT races is simply idiotic if the point is to discuss WT races in general.

This is why I have a love hate relationship with Remco. Kid has such a big personality off the road, almost a bad guy (he is way better though), a lot of charisma and guts on the bike but some of his fans are tough to listen or read (sometimes). The opposite might happens too but at least I base my opinion on facts.
Have you ever thought that your facts might well be your opinions? ;)

The level is overall so much higher now that it’s tough to know whether there’s just better talent* now or if those guys also would be performing much better if they’d ridden in this era.
Ask yourself, all things being equal, how would say 80s riders fare today? You should have competition, Hinault, Lemond, Fignon, Delgado, Roche, they made the racing spectacular. By contrast, what you get today is the utter dominance of one rider. I would expect, however, a fight between the most talented. This is why I'm perplexed, because it's not even close.
Remco vs Big Mig on those routes would have been interesting. Could Remco have got close enough in the ITTs to make Indurain have to do more tactically than just follow and mark in the high mountains.
Remco, albiet third on the day, went up PdBF faster than Pantani. It's all you need to know (and he still loses by 9 minutes).

Nationals aren't important. There's more tradition in Belgium, but once they've won once or twice, it's not that important.

It might be important for a sprinter, but not for someone like Remco.

It is a big win. Just like San Sebastian.
You've made me remember comments back in 2019, that San Sebastian was more important than three mountain stages and a podium in a GT debut.

he would have won multiple tours as we actually had tour de france routes, not this BS world climbing championships that Gouvenou salivates over, because he couldn't ride a TT bike to save his life when he was a pro

I am referring to how the UCI lists it (I don't make the rules...).

I knew that JM won last weekend, but didn't know that the Copenhagen Sprints had WT status already.

Captain was using league levels to support their argument so I did the same with cycling...only WT wins.

RE has several TT wins (Belg champs the most coveted TT in the world;), and Brab Pij, but the OP wants only top league wins. WvA won his 50th too, but it was a stage not a WT win.

DdV is a one day race.

I don't make the rules, I'm just typing how they are represented by the governing body (I agree that stages are HUGE wins, as my posting history clearly demonstrates). You need to email the UCI about their idiocy (its a long list).
