Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

He has legs for sure, good performance. Lacks a team, explosiveness and technique, but pure w/kg and time trialing his easily 3rd in this field.
Sure did. I think this was the longest recorded sprint known to man. I think Remco sprinted the entire length of the last 10 kilometers, only to get catapulted back 30 positions each corner. If not for those, i think he would have won by 2 minutes easily.

I don't expect him to win the TT tomorrow.

The TT is almost perfect for Remco and he's in a good form. His main rival on such course (Ganna) is gone. Neither Pogi nor Vingo have realistic chances to beat him there but, given their top form, they won't lose much.

Evenepoel looked good during the race. Positioning and cornering was laughable, and no teammates is an issue, but his form was good. He wins tomorrow takes around 30s back. Expect more of him during longer climbs, will ride podium easily, and I actually think the gap with whoever wins will be smaller this year.

Remco has better legs than in the Dauphiné, but something's not quite right yet.

Today he did a great job bringing back Pogacar and Vingegaard after the last climb. That's on him.
At 1,8km to go he tried to attack but seemed to mess up a corner and Almeida caught up to him.
At about 550m to go Remco seemed to have blown up? Not the best of signs.

I'm curious to see what he has to say about the end of this stage.

He really needs a better team if he wants to compete for the Tour win. Unfortunately Landa crashed in the Giro, otherwise he could have been a massive help to Remco.

Long straights should play into his cards. Seems like the technical sections are mostly in the city center.

Positioning was laughable? I think that‘s not fair. He was well-positioned, otherwise he wouldn‘t have been up there today. And he did that basically without teammates.

Landa was gonna help Evenepoel in this finale? Right. Landa would have been dangling 30 seconds behind Roglic. The guy that should have helped him here was Schachmann.

Thanks to him sprinting past 30 riders after each corner.

Did you see what Landa did last year in the Tour?
If he had the same form this year, he absolutely would have been able to help Remco today.

Remco had no team mate with him today, so he was forced to close the gap all by himself. That took a toll for sure.

He wasn't well-positioned. He had to come back from far a lot of times to get back into position. On his own too... If you are bad at positioning and your teammate is able to get you back, fine. But that wasn't the case he had to do it on his own.

Calm down, you (Remco fans) fear a lot Pogacar. No way Tadej beats Remco in a flat TT.
Whatever. I'm a fan of both, I just know how strong the guy is and I'm not seeing Remco in crazy good form. Not saying he will, but he certainly could.

Would be a first time he wins a flat TT against Remco.
Yup. Feels possible. I'd still bet on Remco, but I'll not be at all surprised if Pog wins.

8 mile Remco saying he thinks me might be able to take yellow tomorrow, a bold statement!! He also looks like he's about to drop the freshest track this side of the Detroit ghetto has ever seen.

He has trouble handling the bike. He takes corners very poorly.

It reminded me of the World Championships in Glasgow. It was very bad because it was a street circuit with many curves.

There's a chance, but it's not that high normally.

Pogacar and Vingegaard don't *** around in TTs in the Tour de France.

Oddsmakers have Remco as the overwhelming favorite tomorrow. Interesting that Vingegaard is projected as second. Maybe the Dauphine TT still fresh in everyones mind?

RE's form looked solid today.

He definitely needs a riding coach. He's hardly the only pro in that situation though, I'm frequently shocked by some of the poor riding from guys who spend so much time on their bikes.

Yes, Landa didn't do much last year except be in Evenepoel 's wheel until the penultimate day when he pulled a bit. Landa would not have been in that first group. Skjelmose, Roglic. Vauquelin, Van Aert... weren't even able to follow, but you think Landa would have.
