Evenepoel won the Vuelta by losing time in the high mountains to Enricky Mas. But then we back worshipping Sobek in The Nile again.

Mas should have ridden his TT bike before the race

Him losing with only 30km of flat ITT is entirely on Mas. If Heras could overcome 100km of flat ITT, no excuses for Mas

When I say "Remco to the Giro 2026", I don't actually care if he goes or not, I'm not his biggest fan. It's merely me wondering how it's like to be a top rider of your generation and then race against the goat - if that was me, I'd adopt a bit of loser mentality and not waste all of my top form race days in races that also Pog is in. There should be at least one big season goal where he's far away - and so high stakes racing where that's the case, that could the Giro, next year or some other year, I mean it should be a discussion every year for as long as Pog races on this level.

It also can't be stressed enough how a GT literally is THREE WEEKS LONG in the saddle, and then against Pog - that's a noble endeavor for guys like Jordan Jegat, but I'd hope that guys of Remco's ambition generally have better things to do. I'm prone to think the same for Vingegaard, btw, but perhaps he alreday has his two TDF wins and so can't be motivated by anything less. Remco will for sure lose Giro 2026 to Vingegaard if they both start, but at least Jonas is only someone who IMO's merely comparable to guys like Contador or Froome, i.e., riders that you have in every generation and whose voices figure in Remco's internal monologue when he drops on Col du Soulor, so that should be a good benchmark for Remco and worthy of his ambition. TDF against Pog, on the other hand, is just crazy, and so I'm not sure if there's anything inherently noble on Remco's part in signing up for that every year

I get what you're saying, but Remco will be 26 in January and he has only started the Tour twice, finished it once. He really ought to have a few more goes at it now rather than waiting till Pogacar declines/ retires.

After the Red-Bull Bora team days last week, he went to the Specialized Headquarters in California for 5 days together with 6 Red-Bull Bora teammates, including Pellizzari but not Roglic or Lipowitz.

Red-Bull Bora sent a big delegation with two specialists in aerodynamics, two mechanics, the development director, Chief of Sports Zak Dempster and a fysio specifically to take care of Remco's shoulder during the tests (which remains a weak spot after his crash last year).

He spent two full days (15 hours total) testing his position on the TT bike in the windtunnel and one day practising his (new and improved?) position on the track.

Hearing/reading this it doesn't look like he's slowing down any time soon on the TT bike if he keeps searching for every possible gain like this. Specialized is saying that he's probably the rider who has visited the Specialized Headquarters the most so far.

Now it's finally time for vacation.

I don't think aerodynamics, especially on a TT bike should be a concern for Remco

True, but there is no doubting he puts in the work.
Sad to hear his shoulder remains weak. Hopefully it's an issue that will continue to improve and not stagnate.
Also Remco at the UEC and Worlds TT was thing to behold. If Ganna looks like an improved TT version of Ullrich, Remco is something else entirely.

Thanks for posting that, interesting.

Great to see that level of attention to detail by him and the team. I would hope/imagine he's taking the same level of detail to his climbing training. The thing I like about the guy is that he's all in, and is going to maximize his abilities. Whatever anyone thinks of his chances to win against the big two, he strikes me as a guy who is driven to win and is going to do whatever he can.

Really all you can ask for or expect from a champion.

Props to specialized as well. Thank god their engineers came up with a good looking helmet that suits Remco.
Just the thought of Remco riding in something similar to the Visma helmets...

Is it weird that i somewhat see the Darth Vader helmet in Remco aero helmet?

Obviously not his biggest concern but better to stay ahead than to risk others catching up.
Well in GTs it's a lot more important to be an elite climber than to be an elite TTist. So if he has to sacrifice some TT seconds to gain minutes in the mountains that's a no brainer. I think he focuses too much on TTing

Why is his focus "too much"? 2 days of wind tunnel testing in California in the beginning of the offseason doesn't strike me as interfering with his climbing prep. To say the least.

He's the best time trialist in the world. He and Specialized have a vested interest in optimizing that talent.

It's possible to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Amazing work ethic. A bit surprised Lipowitz didn’t join them, he might go at a later time.

4 weeks of holiday and the build up for next season will start

I didn't mean too much per se, but there are definitely other things he should focus on a lot more than aerodynamics. I'm an outside observer of course but to me it seems like he spends a lot more time working on his TT skills and aerodynamics than other GC contendes. Now, if he's okay with being "only" the best TTist in the world and never winning the Tour that's fine by me but I don't think that's his #1 goal or that Red Bull is paying him for that

Sure. I just don’t think paying attention to one is necessarily at the detriment of the other, given the timing and duration of the testing.

It’s a testament to him but you could understand if the same enthusiasm isn’t quite there for climbing marginal gains as the chance of getting anywhere near enough to level with Pogacar is very slim so the returns just don’t feel like a fair reward for the sacrifices

Sure. But I don’t think we have any evidence of that being the case. We just don’t get articles about riders doing 5 super max reps up a Cat1 hill. Wind tunnel testing and a trip to the mother ship in Morgan Hill make more news I guess…

The work he does there in those two days makes sure he stays the best in ITT. Not sure what he could’ve done during those two days that would have closed the gap towards Pogacar, compared to training hard the next few months

Two days plus travelling.
