Dan Lorang apparantly talking about Remco having too much leg muscle for a climber. For now they hold off on making any changes regarding that cause it would effect his TT and messing with it will probably also open up a can of worms they probably ain't ready for. They are willing to do whatever it takes but for now they just gonna keep it as is and see how succesful his season is, and if remco ends up happy with his season under current leg muscle conditions.

Remco needs to stick with being a diesel and increasing his power.

His diesel is quite good, as shown in Valencia against Almieda

I'm not sure what weather it is in Algarve, but the weather has not been good in europe. Remco and Red Bull made the right choice to turn up in the UAE on that front methinks.

I find it so hard to except coach publicly letting this type of things out, putting top athlete mentally onto backfoot that way. Things they should talk inside, not publicly. It's not completely decided yet that gt's are completely climbers races nowadays, they still need complete rider, flats, rolling, wind, rain, downhill, gravel, cobbles, sprint, attack aso aso, not just climbing.

Evenepoel lacks explosivity, high mountains fysics not much more. Bora on the other hand is quite far from general overall level of team support compared to UAE. Hypothetically thinking taking out Pogi and Del Toro from scene and putting Remco in UAE is more brute team support than SQS and Bora combined. But too much muscles in legs...:joycat:

Weight to height ratio of Remco, Pogi would weight roughly 2 kg less. And same the other way round Remco should weight roughly 1 kg more.

Pre-race interview with Evenepoel discusses his team with focus on rouleurs in case of echelons, since UAE can do the heavy work in the mountains. He’s mostly focused on Del Toro but understands there are others in the mix too. His goal is to win 2 stages and the GC. Would bring his tally up to 9 victories.

Remco finally sounding confident. Haven't heard him speak like this since after winning the TT of the 2022 Vuelta that he said he was taking the red jersey back to Wevelgem.

We'll know after Wednesday probably. If they aren't able to drop him on Jebel Mobrah (Wednesday), doubt they are able to drop him on Jebel Hafeet (Saturday). Assuming no crash or echelons he missed of course, but purely on climbing efforts.

Nothing special during his post race interview:

"It was a bit chaotic due to the wind and sand. It was a fight not to lose time. I was a bit on the wrong side. I didn't have the right mentality to fight for the stage. Tomorrow, I'll try to win the stage and take over the leader's jersey."

As in I don't want to fall and f-up my season. By contrast, del Toro was cagey and fearless to go for the bonus secs, which he will need in the TT. Chapeau.

As-in, I expected Milan to win easily like he did last year, I wasn't mentally prepared for a last minute change to this
Looking at the field further down, I think not anticipating at all there would be time bonuses up for grabs is a little sloppy.

It could be this was the stage they wanted to throw FFB a bone to have him go for his own chance, but still.

I don't expect it to matter in the end though.

This too, but the fact is no way was Evenepoel going to try anything in a finish like today, when he's got the TT tomorrow and keeping his powder dry for the MTFs. Plus throwing yourself into the bunch fight towards the line is no risk for him to take, especially with his track record of terrible crashes.

Tiberi, other GC rider, was also in the sprint.

Since it wasn't a flat sprint, Remco could´ve sprinted alongside FFB.
A 600-meter effort won't tire out for tomorrow's time trial.

Perhaps he's too confident for the mountain and thinks he has margin of seconds

After tomorrow he’ll probably lead by 20s on Del Toro

Probably, although if you think Tarling can win, the gaps last year weren't that wide.

I think Remco will win tomorrow, but you said Tarling could beat him, and the differences last year with Tarling weren't even 30 seconds.

Even so, 10 seconds that Remco surely didn't expect.

This sprint is probably most similar to the Catalunya stage 1 one where it was Roglic vs Evenepoel one year (yes the overall stage is more difficult and it's a meme sprint field there).
