One could wonder what remco career would have been like had he joined a GT focused team, and developed his body differently. Kinda pointless but one could do it.

Same could be said about if he only focused on 1 day races. Podcast I was listening thinks he would've already won 5 monuments by now

Tactically today what this was im not sure and idk nor do I really care. Performance‑wise he did well today. Above all his crash hasnt put him out of riding his bike thats good, should be good for tomorrow if today is any indication.

Likely the team decision that Remco worked for Lipo today. The helper was probably stronger than his leader though. It paid off in the sense that Lipo got to 3rd in the GC, good job. Tomorrow Remco will go for his stage victory.

Remco climbing has returned to respectable levels. He is ready for the Ardennes . I doubt he'll have breakdown like last year.
As for GC racing, I do not see him challenging Pogacar or Vingegaard. But he is once again capable of hanging with the rest. I'm still picking others not named those 2 ahead of him atm. But the gap looks very possible to close in the weeks prior to the Tour.
I liked that he seemed to have decided to make this a training ride whilst simultaneously working for Lipo.

I don’t think it’s double standards. It comes from the patently obvious fact that Almeida is a far more limited all round rider than Remco.
Some of the criticism (me included) of Remco is that he should focus on a more classic orientated programme as he is obviously one of the best one day racers in the world- i think that is a perfectly justified critique.
Some of the hyperbole about his climbing issues have been way overblown- he is not a ‘natural’ climber, but you don’t finish third at the Tour with the numbers he did or win the Vuelta if you are not a capable climber, but i don’t get not entering the big one day races (other than LBL) which suit his characteristics.
Almeida on the other hand is a ‘super domestique’ in the old school sense who is capable of strong performances in GTs and one week races. He’s obviously way off the boil at present this year, who knows what shape he’ll turn up to the Giro in but even a top Almeida does not have a cat in hells chance of beating a good Jonas.
Remco’s performances in Catalunya will not alter my view that he should be at MSR, Amstel Ronde etc.

Yeah seemed to be the case securing the podium for Lipo instead of attacking on the flats one‑on‑one. Idk and I dont really care, but performance‑wise he was indeed good today. Held his own on the climb surprisingly well after that.
Im just glad he like others wasnt more hurt in the crashes that they can ride their bikes and log km and for his case didnt ruin his Ardennes. Tomorrow should be good after todays indications for sure. Today creds where cred is due

His descending skills look great now. Did he play more on the Playstation to learn corning? The pressure he puts on others by going full in the straight section is also remarkeable. I am pretty sure he would be able to follow Pogacar and Pidcock in MSR. Next year I really want to see him there.

Hopefully he starts. He’s been working on explosiveness, rather than only on climbing. Why not try this year. Just wanna see him ride the final there, creating havoc and see how he fares against Pogi.
If there's one rider in the world who can follow Pogacar on these climbs, it's Evenepoel. His only problem will be positioning.
It's been said before but it's a bit painful to see someone with the level of talent that Evenepoel has, wasting it on something he's reasonably good at... but not great. And he can be really great in Flanders, I'm convinced of that.

It would have been a totally different race, hadn't he worked. More could've joined the last climb and fireworks could've started early.
The Ronde has become too hard for Mathieu, at least against Pogacar. Evenepoel is a better climber than Mathieu (obviously) so that will be less of a problem for him.

Remco isnt close to the explosiveness of MvdP what? When did that happen? Hes indeed very good at it but not even in the league of Mvdp tier freak explosiveness. Glasgow..Dont hard disagree that he potentially can be good at rvv tho

With this redbull squad positioning shouldn’t be a problem. Even if he’s a little bit behind, after 150-200km the legs will automatically get him easier in front of the group. Just want to see all the strongest one day racers at the start. Now we have no clue what he’s capable of in the Ronde. Just get a program like Pogi, he’s not winning those 1 week GC races against better climbers. Time to start more classics. He can always skip Amstel or Flèche after.

Remco has a great engine on this type of parcours (short hills and flats). Pogacar and Van der Poel are both monsters in Flandres but I think Remco could easily be in contention for the third place. Positioning could be his biggest problem, not uphill cobbles (he proved it during the last WC).

Evenepoels positioning isn't the worst. He's no Roglic or something. Plus a race with a lot of hard riding on flats should be right up his alley. It's not like he was bad in the Paris Olympics.

His obsession with the Tour, while skipping big classics like MSR or RVV, is really astonishing. He's more like a natural one-day racer than a stage-racer. I suppose his teams have dictated his schedule a lot but a rider of his calibre should have a lot to say, shouldn't he?
