Video is not conclusive. I think it is poor to suggest that he is lying.

He seems to grab his front break too hard at the exact moment he rides over the line (where the pothole was). If he lost grip on the bars due to a pothole, then caught the front break too hard as the response, I think, ultimately, his explanation was truthful.

In the slowmotion, you can see that his rear wheel already starts to leave the ground before his front wheel reaches the line. I don't think there's anything to suggest the impact happens in the places where post-race footage showed the (very minor) unevennesses in the road surface. So yes, most probably Evenepoel either lied or thought he felt something that wasn't actually there.

I kinda agree now. Upon closer inspection, it seems like he is already going over the handlebars before the line (where the pothole was).

Could still be some unevenness in the ground before that, causing the overly hard breaking. Can someone ask Vingegaard?

Genuine question. What does this suggest to you?

Personally, I think that statement points toward a personal mistake by Remco rather than road surface.
No clue. I think he just doesn't know.

I also don't really care about this at all anymore. I have an issue with people saying he lied, but it's something from 2 weeks ago...

I wouldn't say he lied because it all happened so fast and he was probably confused. But its pretty obvious the pothole is not the answer.
I agree it's not a lie, there's no way he actually knew what happened, but I think it does show Remco's tendency to look outwards for explanations rather than in.

Zero holes, zero touches, this is a rider who clearly got surprised by the roundabout and braked too much and too fast. But he clearly lives in an alternative world, he imagines things that don't happen. What hole did he see?

Looks to me he hit the brakes and went over. Happened to me as a kid couple of times as well.
First bike had backpedalling brake for behind and only front brakes for the front wheel.
Jonas and his description of the crash def. reveals he's a Dane. An Italian probably would have made a whole story about it.

I do not think he was intentionally lying. Good thing he did not break anything.

I don’t care so much what he said happened. This is a split second thing and he’s probably not sure himself.

But it’s a damning indictment of his skill
Or simply it was a freak accident, which can happens to anyone. He may have had his head down, looked up, didn't realize the round about was so near, braked suddenly, perhaps hitting a small bump in the tarmac and did a summersault.🤷

I can't say you're wrong, something has to explain it. Braking alone is hard for me to grok.

But at the same time we also gotta say that the number of crashes is just...a lot. IMO he's truly a crap bike handler.

Instead of focusing on Remco not wanting to admit he grabbed too much front brake, how about we reiterate how stupid disk brakes are in the pro peloton?.

They allow for more aggressive racing so fans IMHO shouldn't complain. As for Remco and what he said or didn't say. He was punished enough by that fall so it's all good.
