I do think he needs to reevaluate career goals.
Just too many riders who are natural climber body types:
Pog
Vingo
Seixas
Del Toro
And the last two are younger and have more upside.
Maybe give a tilt at a couple of Giros if the competition is weak and it gives substantial ITT kms.
But going for green and stages is not a bad idea.
And ITT likely to come back in mode with Seixas, so he could win more of those (but not to challenge GC). He has a “block” when it comes to climbing now.

AGR was no anomaly. If anything LBL confirmed the impression. Good but not great. Climbing suspect. But fast on the flat. He needs to learn how to climb again or change his goals for the season/career. Especially on the higher gradients.
I want him to spend the next 2 months climbing, and getting slimmer. And have one final go at the TdF. See where he ends up. If he crashes and burns its' time to pivot. If he gets a result. he still needs to pivot. But the choice will be tougher than. Now the choice seems easy. But if he performs the choice becomes more complicated. As instead of simply dropping GC ambitions he then also has the choice to change body/muscle mass. His upper body looks buffer than that of climbers.
A combo of both as he does today does not seem the best option after all.

Remco needs to aim every year for the EC RR in my opinion. That would be special.

None of their top riders are a match for the best anywhere, save for a handful of days. It's just a fight for placings.
You won't see Hindley, Martinez, Vlasov anywhere. Rog is not in the top 3 of a stage race anymore and Lipowitz is just at the Lipowitz level. Evenepoel meanwhile isn't favorite to be on the podium in the Tour, at all.
This. It's completely in line with that performance. He was struggling to hold Skjelmose's wheel on those bergs, it was clear as day.

His sprinting is looking impressive. Remco would've smoked Pogi at the finish had he survived Pogi's attack.
For me, it's a mental problem. This isn't the same Remco who won Liège without Pogacar.
In that sprint, you could see he had the strength, but he simply short-circuits when he thinks he can't keep up, and he didn't even stay in Seixas's wheel at the start of La Redoute, like he did in Kigali and other races.

It is just a bit strange that he was so badly positioned and not even trying.
Then doing the usual heroics and getting third in the end.
Clearly he could have gone a little bit faster on the climbs if digging deep? Idk.
He doesn't have the relative power so even if he went faster (by going deeper), it wouldn't chsnge anything.
Just like in RVV, he got the best result possible despite being very far from winning.
Edit: he wasn't far from winning, somehow Bora decided to took advantage of a crash to get in the front (right after the start). Not even with this perfect scenario, he could beat Pogacar.

Remco likely didn't feel too good at the start of Redoute and couldn't even stay near Pog and Seixas just before Pog's attack.
he needs to go for green and polka dots at the TDF. He can still get a top 5.

Remco can win 4/5 depending on the circumstances. I'm not sold on Roubaix. Only a few people are better at every monument. I think the same holds true for Van Aert. I've seen plenty of riders add a mark on their resume cause those few that are better for some reason did not turn up. Consistently finishing Top 5 means you can win. It just does not guarantee a win. Say Pogacar fell seriously ill last fall and had to scrap his fall. remco would have won EC RR, WC RR and Lombardia. Now for Lombardia and LBL he has not only Pogacar but also Seixas to contend with. (I'm not sold on Del Toro in +250 km races). that's still only 2 riders ahead of him in the pecking order. He's just not the favourite but the clear underdog.
