They’re sticking with Jakobsen-to-Vuelta, so ironically after leaving Bora to get more GT rides, Sam has rode 1 GT in 2 years with Quickstep.

He’ll maybe get the Binkbank. If Paris-Tours was on the old route they’d have to send him to that (but Pat doesn’t like that race any more anyway, so…)

It would be extraordinarily spiteful of Lefevere to not race him again this season. So I guess that’s eminently possible.

Even besides Worlds, there's a whole bunch of races left on the calendar (Covid effects notwithstanding), stage races, one-day races, whatever. Several of which Sam's won/won stages at in the past. And there are too many of them for Cav and Jakobsen (who's going to be in Spain for a month) to get to all of them, so to not send a Sprinter to, say, the Sparkassen Munsterland, or Brussels Classic, or Tour of Britain*, just because of some grudge over contract negotiations, would be a bit counter to the whole Wolfpack ethos.

*Tbf, Cav will definitely get to ride the ToB if he wants it, as he should.

All the talking to the media is already counterintuitive of the Wolfpack. I thought 3 weeks ago Ballerini and Morkov could win bunch sprints.

“If he behaves himself he will race. If not, then three months less riding and 50 per cent less salary.”

It is quite ironic that probably the mildest mannered top sprinter in the recent history of the sport has managed to be involved in two of the highest profile, most bitter, transfers in quick succession.

I do admire his public stance in both situations, whatever he may say or do behind closed doors. He just maintains a dignified silence and lets other people make themselves look worse. Even as Lefevere foams at the mouth like a mad dog in the Belgian press, Bennett just thanked the QS team and staff for two successful years and makes no public reference to his employer’s public abuse.

To be fair, its quite easy to look like the nice guy compared to Lefevere. And this is coming from a Quickstep supporter since they signed Boonen back in 03. He builds a fantastic squad every year but whenever he opens his mouth, you can be sure that nothing of value comes out of it.

Lefevere has confirmed that Sam needs knee surgery and won’t race again this season. And doubled down on his “mentally weak” comments.

So he does need knee surgery but also he is not injured he is mentally weak
Strange logic exists in the mind of that man Lefevre
