Calling Basso to win. He confirmed that his form is good enough to ride and i think he would only ride if he truly feels great (considering Nibali as a backup), i expect him to come into full swing when the 3rd week approaches.

Vai Basso!

I'm looking forward to Frank being in it. I think if he gets the bit between his teeth he could do what Sastre did in 09 ( get a good GC position/ get a few stages ). The route suits him and hopefully he can get in form by the 2nd week.

The Giro trophy truly is the best of all the grand tours. A large cup for the Tour and a plate for the Vuelta.

Anyways, can the mods take out nibali and all those who vote for him can vote again?

What! No Nibali

Can we ask the Giro to allow Liquigas 10 riders?

Those of us who voted for Nibali can't vote now :(

the inclusion of Frank Schleck makes the competition a bit more exciting:) -although I believe firmly this Giro is a duel between Basso & Scarponi...

+1 He is the foreigner Giro needs to compete with the local riders.

But his 5th at Vuelta 2010 must be what we have to expect from him. Just after the podium riders

+1000 I just cannot believe how lame the other two are in comparison! The Giro trophy is absolutely genius. The others should really come up with something with more personality, especially the Vuelta.

and add +1 to the non believers...Nibali won't be at the Giro, they can announce him or whatever I won't believe in Nibbles' presence until the day the race starts.

BTW...Basso for the win, it's probably about his last chance to win a GT so I'm going 150% with him

just to remember everyone...I TOLD YOU :D :D :D (gotta love sayin it )

I would rate Rujano and maybe Gadret and J Rod higher. Hell watch out for Dupont too.

Gadret is a definite chance. Scarponi is the one I am unsure about. I would like to see him win a grand tour but not sure whether he can.

Don't look now, but he has, just like Pereiro and Schleck ;)

Also.

This year the giro is thus structured that the 12 day middle section, even if it not particularly hard on paper, will favour those peaking / able to resist the fatigue until the last week even more than the usual GT setup. I think this adds to the suspense, and in this regard Basso would appear very feasible. Though I voted for Rujano myself. Last year he got ill, and that gnaws my certainty about him a bit.

What if there's another Cunego/Simoni 2004 Giro situation? But this time instead of Simoni, it's Scarponi

Win it on the road I mean. I think Cunego could also do well. He rode a much better race in last year's Tour. But the TT is always pretty mediocre for him. Wonder if Kreuziger will perform ? His name is always thrown in the hat but he never seems consistent enough over three weeks and his TT is worse than it used to be.

Hope this is the right place to post this.
I have some questions about the trophy.

#1: The winners of all years are writing on the trophy; does that mean it keeps getting longer? Or do they simply remove the oldest to keep it at a managable size?

#2: (This is actually a couple of questions in one.)
Last year Contador won, but then he didn't. I assume riders get to keep their trophies. A: Did he have to hand his back? B: Was that trophy destroyed and replaced with a version that said 2011: Scarponi, rather than 2011: Contador?
