Sorry but if SBS are gonna get an expert on the show, he should actually have a clue. Tan was terrible. Tomo as stupid as he is at least has done some good (more so off air I guess).

just a word of caution...

You may all be begging for Tomo, et al once Channel 10 or similar take over the broadcast rights starting with next year's tour. Do you really think that the commercial parasites are going to sit back and let SBS get the kind o ratings they have lately on a sporting event?
SBS have the Tour rights until 2017 I think.

I definitely don't want it on ONE. Get rid of Tan as the cycling analyst and get rid of the commentating duo and you'd have a good team set up. IMO.

So Susan has been lurking, what does she think? :D

Yes confirmed. :D

"Rights up to the 2017 edition."

Not sure if that means the 2017 edition is the last one or if the that's the edition where the rights are contested.

FYI, useless info:

2.4million viewers in Aus watched the last stage. Awesome news and great for a small broadcaster like SBS.

I have two really big sports fans in my office who have been watching the tour for the first. Both of them have commented on how spot on perfect the race commentary has been. For people who have no idea about the tactics in cycling the repetition and obvious comments from Phil and Paul are exactly what they want.

Although in the spirit of the thread nobody has complimented T&T

That's true. But A Current Affair is nothing but 30 minutes of hardcore fail. Somebody should put Tracey Grimshaw on the fail boat and let it drift out to sea never to be seen again.

Another Matty Keenan vote

great reading and in general, i share the same opinions and observations as many who have commented already.

Matty Keenan and Scott McGrory are ace. I agree Matty needs company to compliment his style though. As for SBS and the Tommo and Tanny show, I dont know where to start. Much brighter and more creative people have spoken already in this forum, so I cant add a whole lot. How come these fools get a run and dont seem to be held to question or to account by the sport they supposedly represent? For example I cant see either of them doing the same in the NRL in Australia. I cant imagine either of them surviving in commentary in the Rugby World Cup. So why is it that we have to put up with it?

Its beyond me how a TV commentator can claim to have a deep and burning commitment and passion regarding Cycling and Australian Cycling in particular, and yet be so ignorant, arrogant and contemptuous. Anthony Tan in particular, Mike appears to be bumbling well meaning buffoon, but with the same end product. They are both inept.
What i do remind myself of though is 'never argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience'.

Its great to see an expression of better representation of Cycling media and I agree with the suggestions that Matty Keenan at least be given a much greater role in elevating our National cycling media identity. I agree also that the two SBS stooges comments are really cringe-worthy. Not good enough SBS.
Mike and Tanny need to be let go.
Matt Keenan gets my vote.

Agreed, I thought Liggett was a good commentator too when I knew little about the sport and only saw the TdF highlights and Olympics.

In the meantime, did anyone notice Scott Sunderland's t-shirt last night? A bizarre piece of fashion. Looked like it was made from curtain fabric. One might question his sexuality after that one.

Galic.....Are you the guy who said he his location was spain(?) one time before. As i was defending a guy a month or two back who apparently changed his location. The guy was just trying to tell all the idiots there with their heads in the sand to wake up and see the truth. It was around the time Hamilton came out beccause the guys there were making a big thing about how Mick Rogers now gets an Olympic medal for 2004 and i was trying to point out all the dodgy teams he rode for but i got censored.

Also every time i seemed to post something bad about LA i would get censored. And the one or two times my posts got through like timmy said i also got lots of thumbs downs

Yes. I was using my location in the Blue Mountains and my first name Ben, until I found people hijacking what I'd post and making belony up. I now post as Jorge from AC's hometown outside Madrid. Last time I believe I posted was around Tyler Hamiltons 60 Minutes Piece. The contrast between what was said on this forum/Clinic and on the SBS site was huge. Worlds apart.

I have writen very, very tame ideas about LA on their website. I'd say 80% have been censored. You are not the only one. SBS bought into the myth harder than everyone else, except America and the two Pauls and Bob Roll. I wrote some thing regarding payments made to LA and his TdU appearances in January. All censored. The blogs conveniently avoid many things that SBS journo's know hardened cycling fans know in full detail but the average glancing nobody doesn't. I'd argue that they actively try and stop dialogue and debate...too much suppression of details. Details that would make their stances and ideological groundings appear daft and moronic if such details were common knowledge.

I am sad to say the worst commentary came on the last day by the two T's. Having an Aussie winning made up for it thought. Go CADEL!:D

What are the Australian Accounting Standards for writing off TomaTan on the b/s

I'll have to look that up and talk to some of my mates. With charitable donations not being regulated as they should, one would think with them and all the govt financing SBS could hire a stylist or two given the bile Sunderland and Tan managed to drape around their shoulders. Heck, there are plenty of tax write offs to do with personal attire and workwear. It's all about the money and the $$$. Deductions SBS, make em!:p

Sure Tomo might need a good hair dresser but that's it. Or a hair piece. He should ask Valverde for some tips if he drops by in January. Valverde's look improved wonders...but then he has the whole Spanish lethario swooner deal on his side. He's already a hit with the ladies.;) Tomo might have to settle for all the doctors lonely housewives as you said. He is of Greek descent (correct me if I am wrong), add in a little humour and some swoon, heck, Tomo can reappear next year as the manifestation of Nick Giannopoulos and Vince Colosimo's characters from the Wog Boy. Funny and a hit with the female viewers. Do it SBS, you know it'll work!:D

I must say Tomo looked good alongside Phil and Paul on Sunday. Nice SBS logos on fine shiny black business shirts. I'd hate to have been around. I doubt they bought change rooms onto the Champs Elysees. The thought of Paul and Phil stripping off in front of the public for different tv presenting roles is disturbing to say the least...but not as disturbing as Sunderland wearing the Queen of Englands tea cosy as a shirt. Euurrrggghhhh! Yuck!:(

Overall, SBS do a fantastic job and we are well served.

Loved the HD coverage this year. Realize its French TV pictures but at least they are showing it in HD. Remenber back to Worlds last year, only part of coverage on One was in HD as they cut to the Car Racing

Remember the year before in Mendrisio, One's coverage was interupted by Formula One.

While Tan may not be suited to being in front of the Camera, Thommo is fine as host. Think Tan has picked up on the viewer flak based on his comments late last night, so maybe he will work on his presenting in the future.

Time to replace P & P with Matt Keenan and Dave Mckenzie

WELL DONE SBS, Bring 2012 for the Cadel Evans double.

Hugh

Using a SD set top box for the World Champs not a tv with in-built HDTV tuner or HD set top box? TEN had two channels during Mendrisio. The standard TEN channel cut out for the F1, but the second channel, I think it may have been ONE, showed the whole event. Difference was SD channels available were half the number of HD channels TEN had running. HD capable, you got the whole thing.

If it means more cycling appearing on tv Down Under, free to air, then I say let them knock themselves out. It will depend though on the market and audiences they can pull. What Ten has done with regards to FINA, Australian Swimming and the Shanghai World Swimming Championships is disturbing. Swimming is more of a national sport than cycling and it has been shafted. At least SBS give cycling some time. I wish they did more, footage trumps commentary. At least their Giro highlights this year were ripped off a higher quality online feed than last years. 2010 Giro highlights were pathetically grainy. Maybe 240p if one was lucky.
