here is the famous electric blue suit.

I think panache is an understatement.

That is a snappy combo indeed! You cant beat 100% polyester. Looks like that one came as part of a 3 suit 5 shirt combo from one of Kowloons finest Indian tailors. I know quality when I see it. You can just imagine the light bulb going off when the tailor introduced the "electric" blue material to the Tanman......electric = panache.

Tomo just gave a nice cross from outside the BMC bus, very happy to hear that Joolz is onboard.I am guessing Cadel was having a nap underneath the bus as tomos delivery was very hushed and poignant.

I hope someone at SBS read this and realise how pathetic their line up is. Tomalaris is insufferable to the point where I have to mute him post race. At least they only bought back that turd 'rupey' once this year. Could fine 100 more knowledgeable people at the local crit.

Tomalaris can say a few silly things and bumbles a bit but he done a lot to push for extra coverage of cycling in australia and has done a lot to expand the sport. To him trying to hold back the tears last night was warming after what he has done.

After the TT, Tomo and Tan can say what they want. I liked Dave McKenzie's climb up the Alpe with his helmet cam !

Oh goodness... here comes the FINGER!!!

Tanisms:

- LeMond beat Fignon by 9 seconds.
- Apparently now Cadel Evans is a Clean Skin. I had no idea he was an unlabelled bottle of wine.

My favourite was Tomo calling Anthony Tan a respected journalist.

Tan corrected him though. Obviously he reads the forums or listens back to what he says on the telly.

I am sure Tomo has shed a few tears over last few days... his voice has choked up abit more than normal and his eyes have been very puffy - even more than normal. I am starting to appreciate his contribution - not as a polished and professional cycling TV host, but as an unashamed Aussie cycling fan. For that, you cannot fault him as he captures the sentiments of the fans for sure.

just a word of caution...

You may all be begging for Tomo, et al once Channel 10 or similar take over the broadcast rights starting with next year's tour. Do you really think that the commercial parasites are going to sit back and let SBS get the kind o ratings they have lately on a sporting event?

Thats the big problem with success, one of the for profit networks will surely be doing the numbers on the Tour. And like most things if the get it they will ruin it.

Tomo is not that bad, think of Nine bringing back Darryl Eastlake do do the coverage.

As for Tan I have no idea were he come from, but he has not really seemed that comfortable in front of the camera. Maybe the "finger" is a message for all of us.

Remember this is SBS, all of their presenters are quirky and the programs are better for it. We don't need another "Sunrise/Today/Mate" mob to get their hands on cycling in Australia. The grass is not always greener.

It was cringeorthy this morning on the Today show this morning with them constantly harping on how much a hero Cadel is. Yet none would not be able to name at least one of Cadel's team mates without the help of g00gle.

Aussie mainstream media did the same thing with Socceroos and the World Cup in 2006.
Suddenly every news presenter is a die hard football fan, donning the scarf and being fan since "way back in the day". I bet 90% of them didn't even know what club sides the players played for. Same as Cadel.

Overall, SBS do a fantastic job and we are well served.

Loved the HD coverage this year. Realize its French TV pictures but at least they are showing it in HD. Remenber back to Worlds last year, only part of coverage on One was in HD as they cut to the Car Racing

Remember the year before in Mendrisio, One's coverage was interupted by Formula One.

While Tan may not be suited to being in front of the Camera, Thommo is fine as host. Think Tan has picked up on the viewer flak based on his comments late last night, so maybe he will work on his presenting in the future.

Time to replace P & P with Matt Keenan and Dave Mckenzie

WELL DONE SBS, Bring 2012 for the Cadel Evans double.

Your ****tin me arent you - surely the driving force is the unbelievable performance of Australian cyclists and the fact that there are now hundreds of thousands of cyclists on the roads in Australia. Tomalaris was a soccer comentator that they needed to find something to do and he has just sort of hung around like a bad smell.

SBS & Tomo have been awesome

SBS has been covering the Tour since 1991, long before McEwan come to prominence and Evans was even in the picture, & b4 cycling was popular in this country. In fact, Evans first watched the tour on SBS in 1991 (Indurain), and credits that with his inspiration. O'Grady & McEwen did their first tours mid - late 1990s

It's far more likely that SBS has got people into cycling rather than the other way round, by simply broadcasting the tour.

As for Tomalaris - and he really iritates me - he's really pushed for promoting the Tour since 1996, which is still before cycling became really big in this country. As iritating as he is, creditt where credit's due, he deserves a lot of credit for promoting cycling, along with SBS. And last night, it was pretty clear how much he loves the sport and wants to promote it in Australia.

He's done a lot for cycling in Australia.

Tan: don't mind him. Earnest and trying to provide background that the inexperienced viewer will understand. As per most novice presenters he presents as nervous...hoping that will change with more exposure.

Tomo: enthusiastic, cycling fan, done a lot to promote cycling "kudos" (all good), yells (attempting to be D Eastlake), Lance fanboi "raspberry", doesn't demonstrate the level of knowledge that he should have/may have???*, and I find him mildly irritating. I asked SBS to feedback to Tomo to lower the volume...alas no change :D.

* he may be playing down his knowledge to provide a more comfortable experience for the cycling newcomer...? I recon 95% of the current Australian audience has little or no understanding of pro-racing therefore probably behoves us/me to be tolerant of what is presented.

Aside: questions. Don't want to derail so pls PM. What do Phil and Paul do prior to coming on air (that is while Mat K commentates)? When Phil "disappears" off air is he doing some other live cross?

Aside: loved the helmet cam....SBS and cycling coverage has improved so much since my first watching in the late 80s.

I do so hope SBS retains and expands its cycling coverage. As such am prepared to accept current on-air line-up as a necessary "evil" (well not really evil :0 ), but do wish for improvement.
