Tennis players taking 5 minutes in between points (Nadal). They are supposed to penalized for this but rarely ever are.

I absolutely agree with the skin suits in road races. Hate it. Especially ones with 3/4 length sleeves - that was the gayest looking thing I've ever seen.

Doesnt matter if the ball is in or out, Ljubicic has the point won. The guy is 2 m and standing 30cm from the court. Its more likely that an alien spaceship comes to block the ball than that he misses.

It's not impossible for him to screw up though (however, unlikely it is). He's got to make the shot.

But if the ball was in, and Ljubicic saw this and didn't take the shot then he'd be an idiot. He knows the rules. And that wouldn't be Murray's fault.

As it was, Ljubicic, with a good view could know with confidence that it was out and was let down by technology.

Murray has the right to make a challenge if he thinks a call is wrong. That's not cheating. What rule did he break?

We probably have different views of what constitutes 'cheating' - debates such as the Schleck chain incident and views on returning doped riders show that that this is not exactly unusual.

Lusophone, that's to describe Portuguese speaks of Black African descent, right?

As for player names in La Liga, look no further to Mexican Primera División side Jaguares de Chiapas who decided to replace the players name on their jersey with their twitter handle.

Lusophone just means Portuguese-speaking, not specific to any former colonial area.

Replacing player names with twitter names is especially obnoxious.

On the diving in soccer, the ref should have the right to assume the player is injured, get him stretchered off, and now allow him to return to the field until he has been medically cleared. This should take at least 15 minutes.

I remember when I watched the 2003 UEFA Cup Final (now the UEFA Europa League) when Porto played Celtic, and I was fuming at some of the Porto players in that game. After that I never liked Porto or some of the players who were playing for them (like Deco) at the time.

Same in baseball. Pitchers violate it almost every game, but it gets called maybe once a year in the entire league.

Agree on time-outs in sports. They are too long, and too many are allowed in nearly every sport.

Completely agree on flopping (diving), it's bad in basketball, but worst in soccer. To see some guy fall over and hold his leg like he just had a branding iron pushed through his kneecap...then it's not called by the referee, so he jumps up and keeps playing. This should result in a suspension.

Instant replay review in any sport that takes longer than a minute should result in the original call staying.

What a good thread idea! In the NFL and now in college even, I hate the instant replay. It's a real buz-kill. And even after the disruption of play, most of the initial calls are upheld. I would ban the instant replay and simply let a rare missed call stand. ,

Fighting in hockey

FFS, it's the 21st century. I think it's time to evolve. Not to mention the longterm and often devastating effect it has on the lives of those who are thrust into that role.

Currently being discussed in the hockey thread...

Sports with the word Ultimate in them and yet they have rules!?!? How have rules ever been a factor in something ultimate?

Time outs: they're pro's yet they need a time out? No if you need a time out, you're not a pro.

hahaha! Very true...

Diving in football is the thing that I really hate. Especially the way fans will defend their players to the death. Like liverpool fans who still think gerrard has never dived.

No honor whatsoever.

Give them bans if you find out afterwards they were cheating.

Also swearing at referees or inciting hate against them after the game.

And any team whose fans send death threats to referees needs to be made to miss champions league for next 3 years / next 2 int competitions if they its a nat team.

Great incitement for a fan to send death threats to his own team pretending to be a fan of a serious opponent team.....

I'd like to see after game reviews of all football matches where assessments would be made of any player that 'gets knocked down' to see how much it appeared to hurt and how quickly they seemed to recover after the refs decision.

and then ban any violations for the rest of the season.

seriously thats my biggest complaint - you nearly take someone's head off twice in succession and you miss a match? yawn. A penalty is supposed to penalise the player - make them lose numerous match payments and fine the club!

- first names on football shirts - you are not the only person in the world called Xaví or Raúl, you poser. When we get as far as "Kevin" and "Vincent" this has gone too far.

What about animal nicknames such as Hertha Berlin's Andreas "Zecke" Neuendorf

All that spitting in football has to result in bans.
Especially spitting at opponents. Especially spitting at opponents from behind. It's worth than a slap.

Must add permanent bans to camera men for prolonged crotch shots, [iIb[/i]utt scratching, nose inventory, spitting, readjusting of the boys during men's sports. Honors if done during woman's sports, except the nose inventory :D

Stick Neuendorf on there. It looks even dumber in German (though not as dumb as it sounds in English with that "He Hate Me" stuff).

The only one in the Bundesliga I can understand is "Kuba" for Jakub Blaszczykowski, since his name is very long (similarly, Ustaritz Aldekoaotalora has his first name citing the length of his surname as the reason).

However, as long as this guy can put his whole surname on his shirt, then it's no excuse:

I guess the Dutch were too busy smoking weed and visiting brothels in the red light area to decide where his family came from :D ;) :p

Baseball lore is peppered with a bunch of crazy cheating (or questionable tactics) that are accepted as a part of game. Managers steal signs, pitchers scuff balls, home teams soak infields if it favors their line-up...on and on. It's all part of the game. However, my team's catcher, SF Giants, suffered a horrible injury by a runner slamming into him at home plate. Up until that game, I had always accepted that kind of tough play as being part of the game...no more. I would like to see the type of slides that could end a catcher's career to be a banning offense.
